Horses don't always respond the way we humans think they should... it's our responsibility to work out the why, what do we need to change, what do we need to do differently. I'm saddened when I hear of a horse being labelled dangerous. It's not the horse's fault!

Big subject, and much to discuss.

Photo of Rosie, just because she's beautiful inside and out... She has opinions and she keeps me thinking how I can do things better, differently. ❤️

Great to back at Woodhill Sands and having Jasper back to his normal self. We've been struggling with, I think, a stone bruise, but today he was back in his rhythm and jumping confidently ❤️

Grab your diaries!

Spring 😎 clinic at Brookfield Estate, Waimauku

Dates: Sat 12th Sept and Sun 13th Sept!

If we haven’t worked together yet (or it’s been a few years since your last lesson), here is what our training is all about...

Great riding comes down to two things: how your body moves, and how well you communicate.

When you fix the fundamental connection between your body and your horse, the discipline-specific goals become far more achievable and easier to improve.

It doesn't matter what saddle you ride in (as long as it fits!). Your horse reads your body language constantly. If your body is out of alignment, your horse feels it instantly.

You might intend to ride a specific movement, ride a pattern, or line up straight for a jump—but if your body balance is off, you’re accidentally sending your horse a completely different set of instructions! To fix it, you have to know your starting point, build awareness of your own asymmetries, and understand what your horse is trying to tell you in return.

I focus on biomechanics and translation, joining the dots!

Deciphering the dialogue: Learning what your horse’s bracing, resistance, or tension is actually trying to tell you.

Fixing the rider side of the equation: Small adjustments in your posture and balance that immediately change how your horse responds.

Building repeatable habits: Practical tools you can apply to any discipline, any breed, and any goal.

Check out the flyer below for details on the upcoming clinic. Drop a comment or send me a direct message to claim a spot—let's get you and your horse on the same page.

Not quite horse related but most of us have dogs as well as horses!

I have eventually gotten around to enrolling Oreo and myself into Obedience Dog Training with the lovely crew at Norwest Dog Training Club how lucky is Oreo getting this pack from their sponsors .

I'm hopeful for Oreo, I hope the dog trainers can train me! 🤣

Pretty frosty this morning

No water at the barn, water in the pipes frozen and iced over water troughs, I think that's a first!

A clinic not to be missed!

Relevant to everyone who has horses in their lives.

We only have four places left on this seminar in Henderson, Auckland so email me on [email protected] for information. For those of you who don't know Dr Peters you can check out his FB page Steve Peters. He is coming all the way from the US to do three seminars in New Zealand to share his unique experience of being both a neuroscientist and a horseman. He regularly teams up with renowned horsemen such as Martin Black, Mark Rashid and Jim Masterson to help demystify horse behaviour with his eveidence-based approach. We will have classroom sessions, live horse observation sessions as well as a brain dissection on the last day.

This is what an increase in resilience looks like for Jasper.

His paddock mates, the girls, Trixie and Rosie, are already in the paddock, not calling just waiting for him.

Jasper is 150 steps further up the driveway! And around 2 corners! As you can see he couldn't care! Not that long ago this wouldn't have been the case.

What changed?
Expanding his level of tolerance incrementally.
Keeping his herd dynamics more consistent.
Diet.
Removing his shoes??? Don't know but it is one of the changes I have done recently.
Changing "our story" 😁 and writing a different one.

Just to name a few because I'm sure there's more to it 😍
