It has come to our attention that we have a significant number of Nukuhou students who are regularly using social media platforms such as TikTok and Snapchat to communicate and share posts online at home. We have been made aware that some of these posts are highly concerning and that the content may likely be harmful for your child. Please be vigilant as parents of what your child is viewing and posting online.
A reminder that many social media sites such as TikTok have a minimum age of 13 years to create accounts. Be aware that your child may also have several accounts and pseudo account names.

If you, your child or whānau see any content that is harmful or concerning, I encourage you to report this direct to the social media platform to have it removed. Reporting is quick and easy. Please also speak up if you see content that is concerning - tell someone, and encourage your child to do the same. Social media platforms such as TikTok have clear Community Guidelines - I encourage you to check these and talk to your child about whether their content meets these criteria. If any of our staff see or are are made aware of concerning posts or social media accounts, we will be reporting them immediately and seeking support from external services such as NZ Police, NetSafe and mental health crisis support.

Attached are several rauemi (resources) I encourage you to read to help ensure your child is safe online. Further advice can also be found on NetSafe, which has many resources and help for whānau regarding social media use: https://netsafe.org.nz/social-media-safety/tiktok

Someone cooked their toast a little too dark today and we had an impromptu fire drill 😅🍞🔥 We’re all ok, the drill went well and we are reminded again of the amazing local volunteers we have in the Waimana Fire Brigade and Taneātua Fire Brigades, who got in touch and came quickly to check we were safe 💞💞 Grateful for these legends 🙌🏽👏🏽🚒🚒🚨

Mōrena e te whānau, the illnesses in the rohe have hit us now too! We have large numbers of ākonga and some staff away with flu, colds and strep throats.

Please keep your child at home if they are mauiui and seek medical advice if you are concerned. There are currently high numbers of Influenza A, RSV and other illnesses in our district. Keep an eye out for cold and flu symptoms - fever, runny nose, sore throat/coughing, fatigue.

We will do our best to keep the kura open this week but there will likely be some disruptions to normal classes and activities due to the impacts of staffing and having to move staff around to where they are needed most.

Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui - take care out there!
