Waikanae Kindergarten

Waikanae Kindergarten High Quality Early Childhood Education We foster and encourage children challenging themselves physically and intellectually in a positive working environment.

The curriculum has an emphasis on providing learning opportunities for children to develop their knowledge of sustainability which supports our newly developing Enviroschools programme. We have a wide range of activities available everyday to support children’s decision making and becoming independent learners. The extensive playground and beautiful natural surroundings provides children with oppo

rtunities to take responsibility for the environment. We value children making friendships and developing collaborative relationships. We respect children’s varying ways of expressing themselves in different ways and nurture their creativity. Along with engaging with us about your child’s learning, we invite you to become involved in our kindergarten community. You are welcome to stay during the sessions and spend time with the children. There is always tea and coffee available so feel free to help yourself. Werealizeyoumaynotwanttostayawholesessionso please feel free to come for an hour or two. We also have other social occasions such as luncheons each term. Along with this we welcome your ideas and feedback. TERM DATES 2021

What a wonderful morning with Birdlife Productions 'Box of Birds' Puppet show today! The show sparked lots of bird-inspired play at kindy, with our tamariki flapping, flying, chirping and using their imaginations.

Book Week at Kindy!

What a magical week celebrating our love of books! Our tamariki have been reading, imagining and acting out their favourite stories, building language, creativity and emergent literacy along the way.

Some lucky tamariki enjoyed a special train trip to meet the Dazzlehands author and illustrator before visiting the library!

We finished the week with Favourite Book Character Dress-Up Day, and our kaiako even became Goldilocks and the Three Bears for a very special matinee performance!

A wonderful week of stories, imagination, laughter and a whole lot of bookish fun!

Our bush explorers had a lovely morning in the ngahere (bush) this morning and were very busy exploring, searching for bugs, swinging, balancing, climbing and most importantly having lots of fun! These sessions are a great way for tamariki to explore our local environment, learn about showing whakaute (respect) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) in nature and building confidence and connections with our friends too 🌳😊🔍

Our tamariki were so lucky to be invited to "Books on Board" for a special Childrens Book Week adventure! We travelled by train to Porirua, where the Dazzlehands authors Sasha Cotter and Josh Morgan performed Dazzlehands on board, shared their stories and entertained us with songs.

At the library, we enjoyed dancing, crafting Dazzlehands headbands and hooves, and exploring books. A huge ngā mihi to Read NZ, TePou Muramura, Metlink and Porirua Library for such a special day!

Today our Bush Explorers embraced challenge and adventure as they navigated the ropes in the ngahere.

The ropes encouraged tamariki to test their balance, build confidence, persevere through challenges, and support one another along the way. It was wonderful to see determination, teamwork, and plenty of smiles as they stretched themselves beyond their comfort zones.
