The day we have all been waiting for finally arrived! Taking a look at the faces shows its been worth the wait. A huge mihi to Oceana Gold Waihi, The Lion Foundation & One Foundation Limited for their financial contributions to this project. Playground Creations team for their awesome mahi, we will miss Holden and his team onsite answering 'just one more question' from our man Mason! Most of all a massive thanks to our very own Board of Trustees for giving the green light for this project that will cater for quite literally generations of Te Kura Pūtahi o Waihi tauira! Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa.

I might have had a sneaky trial to make sure it is ready to go all in the name of safety e te whānau🤫. What an awesome effort from the team at Playground Creations almost finished and well ahead of schedule! I don't know who is more excited the kids or Mr Phillips😂. We might just have to have a grand opening this Friday I think!

Whakapapa Learning Concept:

We recently wrapped up our 'Whakapapa' mahi and found the perfect way to acknowledge the past, present and future of our kura. Just as our old playground held many memories for thousands of tauira in the past. Our new one will help create thousands more for our current and future students.
Whaea Tash came up with an awesome idea to capture our whakapapa learning and put it into practice by creating a time capsule for the designers of our next playground to open in the future.
Today our playground design team had the honour to place our time capsules into a special hole dug for us by our number one playground builder Holden. We will make a plaque to remind our tauira in 20-30 years time of when and where we placed these taonga in our playground so that they can share in our learning in the future.
While we were in there we made sure to have a good look over the build, ask 'just one more question' (thanks Mason!) and ensure things are in tip top order!

Week 2 of construction is off to a flier! Currently ahead of schedule due to the awesome weather we have had for the last week or so! Some exciting arrivals this morning that will definitely add some colour to our build by the end of the week!
