We've been off-grid solar powered for over 10 years and really happy with the set up. The majority of our energy is solar powered with a backup geni for the winter months (low light, short days) and a woodburner with a we***ck. It's key getting the right mix that suits your lifestyle, ability to manage the infrastructure of the setup and renewable resources (like firewood) to support the mix.

Enjoying the 'Esse' woodburner on cold mornings!

Getting ready for the day. Warming up my hands with my new found love.. basket willow weaving.. these willow circles are what I whipped out this morning.. deeply satisfying to work with 🥰.
Meanwhile in the kitchen, it's a symphony of preserving stages. Bottling up Smokey Hot Plum Sauce, soaking citrus for tangelo & orange marmalade, trying out a candied peel recipe and doing another batch of Tamarillo Relish - it's so good.
Once the fog lifts, it'll be down to the orchard to get into some apple pruning. 'How to Prune Fruit Trees' by R.Sanford Martin is the handbook we use for a quick reminder.

For anyone who is interested we are based in North Taranaki and currently offering mini group (up to 4pax) preserving workshops on Thursday afternoons. 😀
