Pinehaven Playcentre

Pinehaven Playcentre Playcentre philosophy is based on child-initiated play and recognises the parents as the first and best educators of their own children.

Pinehaven Playcentre is located on Forest Rd right beside Pinehaven School and the Pinehaven Community Hall. It is open during the school term. It offers a large outdoor play area with established shade-trees, fort, sandpit and meadow. Children are encouraged to explore and learn new skills through free-play supported by adults. Activities can include: music, dress up, painting, messy play, baking

, carpentry, crafts, collage, water, and sand. Every session combines all of the above with a focus on Te Reo. This is explored through activities such as waiata and kani kani (song and dance). It’s a friendly and positive environment for children and families. Come and visit, no appointment necessary, just pop in and introduce yourself and your child/ren to the team-leader. Playcentre families receive a unique early childhood experience with opportunities for whānau/families to learn together. Playcentre offers a programme of education for whānau/parents that emphasises parenting and early childhood education including learning in child development, play and learning, parenting skills, planning and delivering early childhood education, facilitation and management skills. Unique within the early childhood sector, Playcentres are cooperatively managed by parents with support from experienced Federation personnel.

This week is Cook Islands Language Week! 🌺🇨🇰
We want to say a huge meitaki ma’ata (thank you) to one of our wonderful whānau members for bringing in DELICIOUS homemade coconut buns and traditional Cook Islands drums for us to try, see, hear, and experience.

Through food, music, and shared cultural experiences, our tamariki are learning to appreciate and celebrate the rich diversity of our community. ❤️

We’re back tomorrow! 🎉

School holidays are over, and we’re excited to be back together.

As we get ready for a new term, here’s a little look back at some of the special moments from our Matariki sessions last term. 🌟 From hands-on play and creativity to shared kai, and even adults learning harakeke weaving, it was a wonderful way to celebrate the season with our tamariki.

Looking ahead, our theme for this term is Marvellous Me ✋🏼🤚🏼 where we will be exploring all things human body!

See you tomorrow! 🌟

For our recent centre whānau get together, we used the opportunity to celebrate Matariki. We gathered at our centre and shared friendship soup, made from root vegetables our members brought in. There was also waiata, kanikani, laughs around the ahi, and much more.

We celebrated the present, shared hopes and ideas for the future, and remembered those who came before us. Thank you to everyone who joined us, helped set up, made food, and everything in between.

We're back on from tomorrow and look forward to what else the term will bring. Our theme is 'ahi/fire' 🔥so keep an eye out for activities planned.

As we're now in the cooler seasons, please do dress accordingly and bring lots of spare clothes!
