For the past 14 years Major Glenys Fairhurst has been a big part of The Salvation Army's 12 Step Programme with staff, students and cadets of The Salvation Army NZ, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Training under the course creator Ferrell Irvine, Glenys has sat with, cried, challenged, journeyed and touched the lives of so many. Today she was honoured for these years as she trusts Gods prompting to now step away and move into new areas. We continue to thank God for her, Ferrell, and also pictured Jaap and Major Sue who will continue to support our territory with this work.

In the past week BCM hosted the first part of the 12 Steps Workshop. The 12 Steps have been in use for over 60 years and are designed to help people — not only those with substance use issues — gain greater personal and spiritual freedom. The Salvation Army's model is drawn from AA’s successful framework but is specifically developed to be applicable to various life challenges. Attendees from across the country come into a safe space to learn, share, cry, eat and encourage each other during an intense but transformational two part course under the facilitation of Major Glenys, Major Sue and Jaap. We remain grateful for the army of prayer warriors who cover them all and this place in prayer during this time.

Over the past weekend BCM hosted a course on Reading the Scriptures. Through these days together the group from across the country explored what the bible is, how to engage with it, and focussed on key teachings in the book of Mark and Galatians. They were encouraged to slow down, sit with the words, explore the context and consider how we come into this. Special thanks to David Wells coming out of retirement to share some of his wisdom.

Last week BCM hosted this group of passionate leaders at a review of thier past five years of full time service as Officers in The Salvation Army. God is doing great things in and through them all around our country. Please uplift them in prayer asking God to continue to richly bless them, thier families and the way they serve the people and communities they are planted in.

BCM hosted this fabulous group of officers last week at a very specific seminar exploring the transition of officers into retirement in the next decade or so. With speakers sharing the personal journey alongside some of the technical aspects, it was a good reminder to all of how good God is and how even if the official work may one day end his power and calling does not. Special thanks to Dillan Korkie from Thrive Finacial, Jo and Jason from HubLegal, Dr Alana for health support and Dean Banks for property advice and the panel of officers who shared honestly about thier own paths through.

This week BCM hosted the Big Picture Plus course for recent-ish staff and officers of The Salvation Army. This was three days of learning, sharing and laughing through leadership and management teaching and experiences. Thanks to the Upper Hutt Family Store, Bridge/Reintegration, BCM/CLD, Rata Educare and Upper Hutt Corps for hosting small groups out of this fabulous team so they could experience different aspects of mission in this part of the motu.
