TOURNAMENT WEEK | 2026 🏆

The wait is over — Tournament Week is here!

This week, four Upper Hutt College teams will travel across the country, taking on some of the best school teams in the region and nation. From the courts to the football fields and hockey turf, our athletes will be proudly wearing the blue and gold and putting everything they have into representing our kura.

Getting to this point has taken weeks of training, commitment, teamwork and determination. Behind every team is a huge support network, and we want to acknowledge our coaches, managers, staff, whānau, families and supporters who continue to give their time and energy to help our students compete at this level.

To our athletes — this is your opportunity to embrace the challenge, back your teammates, create some memories and show what UHC is all about.

Play with heart. Compete with purpose. Represent with pride. 💙💛

It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Sam Keegan, our much loved and admired Year 10 Dean, Geography and Social Studies teacher, passed away last night.

Sam had been battling cancer for the last 5 years. He used to say, don’t call me inspiring, but he was, as he showed up to teach, through the treatments, the surgeries and all the ups and downs. Sam loved being a teacher, sharing his passion for Geography (that’s Sam on a GEO301 field trip), and Social Studies with his classes. He loved being a Dean, working with all sorts of students, giving them support when needed and a hard time when needed too! He loved Upper Hutt College, the students, the connections he made, the many, many laughs and fun times he shared with students and staff alike.

Sam loved to travel, and recently completed a trip to SE Asia, where he somehow managed to appear on Japanese TV when he was in Tokyo. He loved Crossfit too and worked hard to represent New Zealand in the Torian Pro Competition in Australia in 2024. Sam also loved his gaming and he loved animals, especially his dog Jeffrey.

Sam was positive, energetic, good-humoured and genuine. He made a difference to so many - students and staff - and we will always remember him, just as we will remember his words to the Seniors at the 2024 Leavers Dinner – “Life is full of wins and lessons – wins are nice, but lessons make you who you are”.

Our deepest condolences, thoughts and aroha go to Sam’s wife Bex, his family and all who knew and loved him.

Senior B Netball – A Season to Remember

What a season it has been for the UHC Senior B Netball team! From the very first game, this group showed determination, commitment and plenty of team spirit, finishing the season undefeated and as Division Champions.

One of the standout moments of the season was our 36–18 win over Wainuiomata High School in the final. It was a particularly special victory as the team was determined to finish on a high for our three Year 13 players. Sending them out with a championship title was the perfect way to celebrate their final season and their time at UHC.

The team also made their mark at the Heretaunga Exchange, where they dominated the competition and continued to show just how much they had grown throughout the season. Their hard work at training, willingness to challenge each other and ability to play for one another made this team such a pleasure to watch.

A massive thank you to our coach, Shelley, for everything she has given to this team. From countless hours of training and support to constantly challenging us to improve and be the best players we could be, your commitment has made a huge difference.

We would also like to thank Tim Waetford, our wonderful manager, for all his help and support throughout the season, as well as Deb Cameron and Ingrid O'Sullivan for giving up their time each week to score our games.

Most importantly, this season has been about the people, the memories and the moments we have shared together. We have worked hard, laughed plenty, challenged ourselves and enjoyed every minute of being part of this team.

Undefeated. Division Champions. Heretaunga Exchange champions. And a season we will never forget. 🏐💙🏆

A very special season for a very special group — and the perfect way to finish the journey for our Year 13s. Congratulations, Senior B!

UHC Junior A Netball Celebrates an Outstanding 2026 Season

What an incredible season for the UHC Junior A Netball team! The team has finished the 2026 season undefeated, taking out the Collegiate 2 Division Final with an impressive 40–21 victory over St Orans College.

The team’s success didn’t stop there. Throughout the season, they also claimed wins at both the Heretaunga Exchange and the Kuranui Exchange, and finished Runners Up at the College Sport Wellington Junior Tournament.

A particularly impressive aspect of this season was that the Junior A team predominantly competed against senior teams within their division, making their undefeated record and achievements even more remarkable. Their determination, teamwork and commitment throughout the season have been outstanding.

A huge thank you goes to Ms Watson and Ms Lejcak for their amazing coaching, encouragement and dedication to the team throughout the season. Thank you also to Gemma Campbell for scoring every week, and to Shelley Shaw and Kathleen Beckett for your valuable input and support throughout the season.

Congratulations to the entire UHC Junior A team on an exceptional 2026 season. Your hard work, resilience and team spirit have truly paid off. Undefeated champions — what an achievement!
