You’re invited to Playcentre Open Week! Free play sessions for tamariki aged 0-6 across the motu.

Bring your baby or preschooler along to your nearest centre 17-21 August and experience our supportive community.

Your child will enjoy a range of play experiences, from messy and outdoor play to arts, music, and water exploration.

At Playcentre, early learning is a shared journey. For over 85 years, we’ve supported parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend and learn alongside their children, helping build confidence, connection, and belonging.

You’ll also gain access to a free NZQA-accredited adult education programme, helping you build practical parenting skills and strategies to support your child’s learning.

✨Our wish list ✨

After messages asking what else Tōtara Park Playcentre needs we thought we would share our wish list.
- Pavers to create a path to our herb garden
- Concrete and/or cement mix
- Scented plants such as germaniums, fuchsias etc. (they just need to be child safe.)
- Acrylic/ outdoor paints for use on decorating rocks
- Plywood sheets and corrugated iron
- And if we are being really hopeful, we would love to add to our herbs and veggie gardens and maybe even some fruit trees.

Thank you to everyone (especially mastermind Trudy) who have contributed to our sensory/memorial garden so far - from donations, time, and muscle power we really appreciate what has been done so far.

Tōtara Park Playcentre's newest artwork is now up! Our tamariki nui decided on the design elements of this bottle cap mosaic by taking a walk around our local environment and thinking about what was important to them - they noticed the greenery, sunny sky, the beloved tree swings, and the river. They then started gluing the bottlecaps onto the wood, bringing in those natural elements. After our big kids had laid the plan, tamariki across all sessions contributed to this gorgeous mosaic.

Huge thanks to Placebo Effect for the bottle caps and Jono Bishton for the wood. We couldn't have done it without your donations. Tamariki were empowered to lead their own project, learning about design, their environment, and kaitiakitanga through finding new uses for things which may otherwise be discarded. Just a day in the life at Tōtara Park Playcentre!

What a wonderful community we live in! Thank you so much for all the contributions to our memorial/sensory garden. Our volunteers are busily beginning to transform the area and we can’t wait to show you the finished project! In the meantime, if you have any children safe flowers and plants you wish to share with us, that would be greatly appreciated!
