Well done to our Science students who had some great successes at recent Science Fairs in both Auckland and Waikato! πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸΌ The NIWA South and East Auckland Science Fair was held in Saint Kentigern College in Pakuranga. Olivia Islip and Armani Phillips joined the Living World Category. Their research title was β€˜From Glam to Scram: Biodegradable Glitter and the Cardiac Impact on Daphnia Magna.’ It was a tough competition considering the large number of students that participated. The judges were impressed by their research findings and they were awarded third place! πŸ₯‰ They will receive their prize on 4 September.

Another research competition was the Waikato Regional Science Fair held at Distinction Hotel in Hamilton! 🀩 Aania Baloch and Jasmeen Kaur represented the school in the Living World Category. Their research title was β€˜Killing Me Soap-ly: Using Daphnia magna as Bioindicator of Agapanthus Rhizome Saponin Toxicity.’ The judges were interested about their research project, and an award will be given to them on 10 September 🌟

Zoe Martin also gave honor and pride to our kura! She participated in the Senior Invention and Technical Innovation Category. Her research title was β€˜Injection, Illusion and Infiltration.’ She will receive an award on 10 September πŸ‘πŸΌ

Filipino Language Week πŸ‡΅πŸ‡­πŸ’« Last week we celebrated Filipino Language Week! This year's theme is "Wika na Nag-uugnay; Kultura na Nagbubuklod" (Language that Connects; Culture that Unites). Thank you to our Filipino teachers, students and families for making the week so special πŸ’š

As part of this on Saturday 22 August some of our students performed during the Filipino Language Month Celebration at Franklin the Centre! The Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand, Kira Christianne Azucena, joined the event also! Well done to Faris Nim Zinampan who represented Tuakau College in the singing competition and won third place πŸ₯‰πŸ‘πŸΌ

Mālō e lelei! πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡΄ Last week we celebrated Tongan Language Week and acknowledged our Tongan students, families, and the wider Tuakau College community. The theme for 2026 was β€œKo 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga - Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture” πŸ’«

A special mālō 'aupito to our Tongan parents and families who joined us and so generously shared their culture through their warmth, love, food, music, and dance. Your involvement made the celebration incredibly special and provided a wonderful opportunity for our whole school to experience and celebrate the richness of Tongan culture πŸ’šπŸ€πŸΌ Mālō 'aupito!

Tuakau College would like to extend a huge thank you to all the students and whaanau who attended our Gateway and Trades Academy Information Evening for 2027 πŸ€©πŸ’šπŸ€πŸΌ It was fantastic to welcome approximately 160 attendees, along with representatives from our Trades Academies and tertiary education providers. Their knowledge and support helped showcase the wide range of vocational pathways and opportunities available to our students 🌟

A special thank you to Lyndal, who shared the inspiring success story of her son’s journey from being a Gateway student to becoming a medic in the New Zealand Army! πŸ‘πŸΌ

We hope the evening provided valuable information about our Gateway and Trades Academy programmes, answered your questions, and helped students and whaanau clarify their options and make informed decisions for 2027. Thank you for helping make the evening such a wonderful success! 🀩
