DAFFODIL DAY - 🌼🌼You probably know at least one friend, family member, colleague or other person that has lived through cancer or has been beaten by it. The reality is, giving up is not an option. We're raising money while raising awareness of the important work the Cancer Society provides, so no one faces cancer alone.

On Friday 14th August, Waikaretu School held its annual interschool cross country event. The forecast was supposed to be dry but it turn a bit wet and muddy. That didn't stop us from having a load of fun and challenging ourselves to persevere!

We are so proud of our students as they all finished their course! A few special mentions go to:
8-9 year old boys: Jack (2nd) and Mason (3rd)
3rd Place for teams

10-11 year old boys: Eli (3rd)
3rd place for teams

10-11 year old girls: Libby (4th)
3rd place for teams

12+ year old boys: Will (4th)
12+ year old girls: Caeley (4th)

Thanks so much to all our parents who supported us and helped out at the BBQ, selling snacks and drinks. Thank you to all those volunteers that marshaled on the course. Your contributions are much appreciated!

As part of the William Pike Challenge, our years 4 to 8 students will complete a community service task. For this task they will attend the BioBlitz (organised by West Waikato Coastal Community Catchment Group) on Monday 31st August at the Nikau Cafe. During the Native Bird & Trees Bio Blitz the students will:

🌿 Learn from local bird and plant experts.

🐦 Discover some of the unique native species found within our catchment.

📱 Learn how to identify and record birds and plants using free apps.

🏆 Compete for prizes.

Just over a week ago, we had a visit from Lightwire to install a back up battery for our VOIP emergency system. Craig showed off his truck and installation gear while they also sent an engineer (also called Craig) to talk to us about how the Internet actually works. Our kids were enthralled and had some awesome questions; we seem to have a few engineers in the making! Thanks Lightwire for your awesome informative presentation.
