Pukekawa School had a temporary fence erected yesterday in the rain. Thank you to Matthew, Reupena and Brendon from United Rentals, Colin Booker from Franklin Water Cartage and Anthony Allen and his two workers from Wall to Wall for their excellent service and support to make this happen.
We were saturated but managed to get the job done by 1:00pm and we now have a 'fit for purpose' fence that can keep everyone safe inside the school grounds.

If you need to visit the school, there are two sections that are not filled with water that you can push to enter the school. The first is in the same place as the main gate; you may have to lift up the shackle that will be at the top of the steel pole of the yellow section of that fence, and the other entrance is the section next to the pool fence.

We are unsure how long the temporary fence will remain as we are still waiting for a start date for the construction of our new boundary fence.

TEMPORARY FRONT GATE FENCING ARRIVING TOMORROW

We are having some temporary fencing delivered and installed tomorrow - Wednesday 24 June. This is being installed prior to our NEW boundary fence being constructed in the near future.
Our current front fence is not fit for purpose and the temporary fence will be what we have to keep our students safe in the meantime. (I do not have start or finish dates confirmed yet).

Please DO NOT double park in the front car park, especially with the temporary fencing. This is a serious health and safety issue and unacceptable.
We are going to be reduced to two gates to enter and exit the school; one will be for students who are collected by vehicle (at the bus shelter end) and the other will be our bus gate. (near the flag pole)

Pukekawa School will be having contractors onsite from Friday this week right through to Friday 24 July.

We are having a major property project completed onsite and wanted to let you know that there will be various contractors on the school grounds throughout the next 4 weeks.

Please keep away from the back of the admin building and toilets as that is where most of the work is being completed and respect the temporary fencing around the building site.

We will keep you updated as the developments occur.

Pukekawa School now has a Principal Cafe that hosts students who are awarded one of our focus value's for the week.
Our RICHER values at school are Respect, Initiative, Confidence, Honesty, Excellence and Responsibility.

As a staff, we felt that we could do even better to re-energise our school culture by learning more about, and find students who demonstrate those values.
We break down and talk about one value for two weeks, then two students from each class are awarded a RICHER award which entitles them to an invitation to the Principal's Cafe.

Below are some photos of one of our cafe dates and a photo of Mrs Redmond early morning efforts this morning for our cafe lunch today; macaroni cheese. There are always a few extra yummy treats sitting on the table for the students to enjoy.

The student feedback is that they love it and Mrs Redmond loves spending quality time chatting to these wonderful ambassadors for Pukekawa School.

ANZAC Day

The Year 5 and 6 students made an ANZAC wreath at Camp on Wednesday night, ready to place at the Ngaruawahia Cenotaph the next day on our way back to school.

Mrs Knock wrapped a green ribbon around the polystyrene base and the tamariki made poppies out of red tissue paper and black pipe cleaners. Mrs Knock carefully attached them and it looked magnificent.

Eli and Jackson, out two school leaders placed the wreath at the base of the Cenotaph and we observed a minute silence then had a good look at the local names and different countries the soldiers fought in over time.

The FT3 bus will be resuming its normal route from Tuesday 28 April starting at the top of Mile Bush Rd and continuing along Mercer Ferry Rd into Morrison Road as it used to.

A huge thank you to Mercer Mushrooms for letting us do our pick up and drop offs in their car park.

Pukekawa School Pool have a new pool fence - It looks incredible!

We have a new pool fence thanks to Structen Services and their incredible professionalism and high standards of workmanship. They were onsite all day Friday and managed to deconstruct our old rusty fence and erect a brand new one to replace it. It look outstanding.

We would not have been able to do this without our dedicated board member Rebecca Cunningham who applied to Grassroots and Four Winds for a community grant. Another successful project that Pukekawa School have completed so that our school pool is compliant and safe for all of our students and community members to enjoy.

Pool keys

Can we please ask that pool keys are returned to the school office by Thursday 2 April.

The pool will be closed until it opens again in December.

Thank you to Tutuwehiwehi Ronaki for doing such a great job as pool manager for the 2025/2026 season.

What a difference it has made with the pool being heated this season. We have made the most of the season.

What a fantastic day we had at Rippa Rugby yesterday! 🏉

We may have started off getting absolutely saturated, but the rain cleared and we dried out quickly—nothing could dampen our spirits! ☀️

Our students played incredibly well all day, showing great teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. We are so proud to share that Pukekawa School earned **2nd place in the mixed grade tournament**—an amazing achievement!

A huge thank you to Tessa for helping with transport, and to all the parents who came along to support and always lend a hand where needed. We truly have a wonderful community 💙

Our biggest thank you goes to Jordan Coulson, who went above and beyond for our students—running lunchtime trainings, organising after-school practices, and even stepping in as our referee on the day. We hugely appreciate everything you’ve done!

Ka rawe, everyone—what a day to remember! 👏
