FAMILY IS SO IMPORTANT! We all know it, but how many of us put it into action? We procrastinate, put it off for another day and ultimately miss out on precious memory making time.
About 40 years ago the Pridgeons family decided that life was too short to not make family a priority...so they started family camps here at Mangatepopo. The structure has been fine tuned over the years and every year at the same time ALL of their extended whanau, now know that Mangatepopo Camp is where it's at.
Each year they do a bunch of activities both inside camp grounds and in our beautiful alpine environment.
This year children as young as four ascended Ruapehu alongside aunties uncles parents and friends to achieve the family mission.
How cool is that?
To do something hard but so worthwhile surrounded by those you love.
This family demonstrates fully the value they place on togetherness and it all started years ago with someone saying, LETS DO THIS THING!

You too, can do this thing!
Start your own family tradition. Eat together, play together, explore together but mostly spend time together.
Show the world...but more importantly your children..that your family really does matter.

We have an astounding four weekends available in May.
Why not start your family tradition and get the crew together all under one roof here at Mangatepopo Camp!

We’ve just had the pleasure of hosting the Whanganui Cadet Unit here at Mangatepopo Camp - and what a fantastic group they are.

It’s always great to see young people getting outdoors, building skills, and working together as a team. The camp was left in great condition, and they were a credit to themselves and their leaders.

Thanks for staying with us - we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future!

The annual working bee is done and dusted, and what an incredible difference it has made to Mangatepopo Camp.
*Windows were replaced
*Doorknobs and window latches repaired/replaced
*New toilet installed in the custodians house
*Trees were felled to allow light into the back of camp
*Cobblestones were replaced and resanded
*A new firewood gate was installed
*The holiday house garden was thinned out and opened up dramatically
*The driveway potholes were filled in by Chris and his trusty digger
*Ceilings were cleaned
*A hole in the floor of the school was repaired
And Im sure Im probably missing a lot more- although, if youd seen how busy it all was, youd agree it was more than enough!

These guys pictured (plus Craig who had to leave early) are legends.
They turned up, got stuck in and worked from dawn till dusk getting Mangatepopo Camp looking fresh again.
Many of them had other plans--BUT SHOWED UP ANYWAY!
Some came to squeeze in as much mahi as they could, before zapping away to various appointments and then coming back again!
***** The commitment of this crew is second to none.*****
Chris left the Board, but still turns up every time and works like a 21 year old!
Our youngest board member Patrick, simply DID NOT STOP throughout the weekend! I'm sure he was involved in almost every job in some way!
Everyone pitched in and did something!

These people, who serve Mangatepopo Camp tirelessly, and so willingly, are the gears that turn the machine that is Mangatepopo.
We are blessed beyond reason with their skills, strength, knowledge and willingness.

We have just had the most wonderful group stay with us..... Hartmut Borries and his Christian Community. They stay with us annually and every time they leave the camp exactly as they found it or better. They shift a bit of furniture around to suit their needs but before they touch anything, they photograph every room and at the end of their camp, they clean everything thoroughly and put everything back according to the photos they take.
It is pure genius and we are so thankful for the responsibility they take in showing such care and consideration to our beautiful old camp.

One of the hardest things for me to do by myself after camps leave, is to replace furniture and mattresses that may have been moved by 20 people. What a genius idea to photograph things before you move anything to ensure its all left as it should be!

Christian Community, you are an absolute blessing and I am immensely thankful for your attitude of kaitiakitanga at Mangatepopo Camp.

See you next year!

Allow me to introduce you AGAIN to the amazing Craig Calman.
Craig came down back in November( with a new sidekick in the fiercely talented and willing to help, Adam Laker....thanks so much Adam!!), a few days prior to our annual firewood weekend to replace yet another old rotted window in our holiday house.
This man works as hard and as long as a sheep farmer in mustering season...probably harder. He works with the precision of a fine jewellery maker with every cut, join or corner requiring millimetre precision.
The result of Craig Calman is that we now have holiday house windows that look like they've been there since 100 years ago...but that will last 100 years into the future.
This man is an absolute legend and we absolutely appreciate his craft.

CRAIG CALMAN...YOU ARE A MANGATEPOPO LEGEND!
