Hatea A Rangi School is a Full State Primary School, situated approximately 95km’s north east of Gisborne in the picturesque coastal setting of Tokomaru Bay. The tranquil waters of Tangaroa echo throughout the school on a daily basis. Our school and community history is rich in both Maori and European traditions. The current Tokomaru Bay population stands at around 400 people. There are 4 Marae lo
cated within the Bay and most families represented in the school affiliate to one or a number of those marae. Marae activities are an integral part of our students’ lives. The school provides a level three bilingual programme, which aims to develop competency in both the English and Māori languages. Students are supported to become self-managing, high achievers with high expectations for their future. There are two classrooms in the school. The teina classroom educates students from years 1–4. The tuakana classroom educates students from years 5-8. The school is well equipped technologically with all students having regular access to computers, laptops, and I-Pads to support their learning. Each of the two classrooms also has an Interactive Whiteboard and up to date digital cameras. E-portfolios are kept by all children to document and support their learning journeys and to inform student lead conferences four times a year. We are also an enviro school and include Kapa Haka and entrepreneur activities in our exciting Mana Motuhake localised curriculum. We have an active school whānau who help out on a daily a basis. Our current Board of Trustees are:
Lillian Ward - Presiding Member
Ngawai Maukau - Selected Parent rep. Chad Chambers - Elected Parent rep. Te Oraiti Bartlett - Staff rep. Karla Kohatu - Principal
