To celebrate NZ Poetry Day today we had our first ever Poetry Slam in the library. We are so proud of our students who recited their own original poems, rhymes and jokes.

It's never too early to start sharing stories 📚

From babies to children in their early years and all the way through to teens, reading brings profound benefits that can have a lifelong impact on children's lives.

Evidence shows that reading supports children to bond with their caregivers, do better at school, develop creativity and empathy, and even overcome inequalities before they deepen.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Aotearoa NZ Children's Book Week in the library. We kicked it off with partipating in the National Read Along of Dazzlehands, wrote hearts of our favourite books, made Tongan bookmarks, coloured in the beautiful book week colouring competition, made reading challenge chatterboxes, found out what type of readers we are and had 29 scavenger hunts in the library. Thanks to Read NZ Te Pou Muramura and Penguin Kids NZ for these for these awesome activities. Our tamariki loved them.

Here are our wonderful winning books of this year's Children's Book Awards. We had 3 of our classes take part in judging books in the long-list this year, by reading and writing reviews. This allows our young readers give valuable input in the judging process. We will announce the winners of our "Guess the Winning Book" competition next week.

This week for School Library Week we asked the tamariki to tell us what they love about their school library. For some it's their special place and for others it make them feel calm and relaxed. Most of the tamariki told us they love all the books they can read and enjoy.
