From Terrified to Thriving ~ Meet Lisa Coppins, DTM
When Lisa’s employer suggested Toastmasters to help improve her public speaking skills, she felt both excited … and completely terrified.
The thought of walking into a local club full of unfamiliar faces felt overwhelming.
So instead, Lisa and a workmate drove 2 hours each way to attend an 8-week Speechcraft course, spending the trip home analyzing each other’s speeches and building confidence together along the way.
After completing Speechcraft, Lisa finally found the courage to attend her local Alpine Toastmasters Timaru club.
And it wasn’t nearly as scary as she imagined.
What she found was a welcoming community of people encouraging each other to grow, learn, and succeed.
Since then, Lisa has challenged herself in ways she never thought possible ~ speaking to rooms full of strangers, leading teams, organising events, and serving in District leadership roles.
Toastmasters didn’t just improve her speaking skills.
It changed the direction of her journey.
And it all started with saying YES and giving it a go.
Lisa continues to grow her Toastmasters leadership journey by serving as Alpine Toastmasters Timaru Club President, Cyber 5 online Club Sergeant At Arms, Central Otago Toastmasters Club Member, District 72 Program Quality Director and if you’re driving through Timaru this week, keep an eye out for Lisa featured on the Bridge Road Billboard.
