Last week, we celebrated Autism and Epilepsy Awareness with lots of blue and purple activities. It was a meaningful day filled with lots of hands-on sensory play.
The tamariki enjoyed tracing patterns in salt, using stamps to create designs in vibrant playdough, and exploring natural materials. We added lavender to our play, which smelled amazing throughout the centre and created a calming atmosphere.
The sensory trays were a big hit too - from scooping and tipping birdseed to enjoying corn flour play in the water trough. The spinning tops were especially popular and brought lots of excitement and laughter.
These sensory experiences helped celebrate awareness by encouraging exploration, creativity, and inclusion, while supporting each child's unique way of learning and engaging with the world.
