Stronger together šŸ’™

For many years, Alzheimer’s South Canterbury has been supporting people living with dementia, their families and whānau across the region.
From 1 November 2026, Alzheimer’s South Canterbury will become part of Dementia Canterbury.

While the name and organisational structure will change, what matters most will remain at the heart of what we do: people.

People living with dementia.
Families and whānau navigating a new diagnosis.
Carers who need support.
Communities learning more about dementia.
And everyone who deserves to feel informed, supported and connected.

By joining together, we have an opportunity to strengthen dementia support across the wider Canterbury region, bringing our experience and resources together and reaching more people who need us.

We’re excited about what the future holds - and grateful to everyone who has helped make dementia support in South Canterbury what it is today.

One organisation. One shared purpose. Stronger together. šŸ’™

A huge thank you to the Zonta Club of Timaru for the very generous $700 donation from your movie fundraiser evening - this money will go directly towards supporting people living with dementia in our local community.

It was a pleasure to come and speak to you all last evening.

We’re pleased to share some exciting news for our communities across Canterbury.

From 1 November 2026, Dementia Canterbury will extend its services into South Canterbury, welcoming and amalgamating the Alzheimer’s South Canterbury team into the Dementia Canterbury whānau.

This is an important milestone for our organisation and means we’ll be able to support more people living with dementia-mate wareware, and their families and whānau, across a wider Canterbury region.

We’re delighted to welcome the South Canterbury team into the Dementia Canterbury whānau. They bring a wealth of experience, strong local connections and a deep commitment to supporting people living with dementia-mate wareware and their families. The trusted relationships they have built with the South Canterbury community will continue to be at the heart of our work together.

By coming together, we can share our knowledge, resources and experience to strengthen dementia support for our communities, while creating opportunities to introduce new programmes, provide consistent training for staff, and continue improving the services we offer.

This amalgamation reflects a shared commitment to ensuring dementia support remains strong, sustainable and accessible for the future.

We’re excited to welcome South Canterbury into the Dementia Canterbury whānau and look forward to supporting more people and whānau across our region.

A huge thank you to Perpetual Guardian and the wider community for their very generous donation awarded to Alzheimers South Canterbury as winners of their 'dragons for good'- dragon den-style fundraising event.
Thank you also to David & Raewyn for allowing me to share their story, to raise awareness about how Dementia can affect anyone, at any age, at any time.

It's support like this that makes a HUGE difference. So we were honoured to be part of this wonderful event.

Today is Airini's last day with our Alzheimers SC team. Airini has been with Alzheimers SC for seven years and throughout that time has supported many families on their dementia journey. We are so grateful for the care, support and guidance Airini has provided and wish her well in her next adventure. THANK YOU doesn't seem enough!
