Pukekos Educare Ltd Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. For children play IS serious learning. Play is the work of childhood!

Here at Pukekos Educare, literacy resources are readily available throughout the Centre, integrated into our planned and emergent routines and experiences. A child’s writing reflects their own world, their narratives and voices, provides a means for self-expression, and is an integral part of their self-identity. Our main priority is to ensure children develop a love of learning and are supported to become confident, competent learners when they start school.

It is with immense sadness that I share with you, the passing of Linda Baker (Linda loo) after her short battle with illness.
To say she will be missed is an understatement.
Linda always joked that she came as part of the furniture when we purchased our Thames branch of Pukekos all those years ago. Teaching at Pukekos was such an important aspect of her life, that even when battling cancer 6 yrs ago, she insisted that what kept her going was getting back to work and to her beloved 'kiddos'.
Her passion for teaching, doing right by children and their families was fierce, and at times a force to be reckoned with. Justice, fairness, loyalty, love and care, are just some of the words that spring to a fuzzy mind at this time.
And retiring? What was that? Linda had to be slowly weaned off coming into work. Her love for all things Pukekos remained to this day, still coming in over weekends to help with extra cleaning ,or setting up new provocations for play, weeding gardens or helping with a new environment development continued over the many years.
We will remember our wonderful Linda for her impassioned conversations, the joy of discovering new knowledge , imparting her wisdom, the classic Linda quotes, the cooking skills, the laughter and joy she imparted.
Children were definitely at the heart of all matters.Relationships and love, Linda's foundation blocks as a teacher, a friend, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife. Having strong, loving, special memories for all, her most ardent wish and legacy left to us all.
Linda was more than an incredible teacher and loyal work colleague, she was one of my very best and dearest friends.

Kia noho te atua ki a lie Kia tutahi ano tatou
God be with you till we met again. Xx

I would invite past and present teachers and families to share photos on this post in memory of Linda.

Spring has sprung at Pukekos! Despite all the covid focused stresses our families are facing at this time, our space brings alittle calm and peace for our little ones. Being outside, enjoying our favourite spaces, with better connections than any WiFi could ever give them!

We've found our person now.

We asked our older children who they would like to have work and play with them, this is their advert 😊
We need a big person to,
* Help get our sandpit trucks for us
* To chase us making us laugh
* To help us make things like paint
* To help us learn things
* To get us stuff for making baking
* To be nice to us and have cuddles if we're sad sometimes
* To change the babies nappies
* To sunblock us so we don't get burnt outside
* Someone who gives us the hose to make a river.
* ...and let's us choose songs on the speaker and does funny dances with us

How do we choose our someone? Who do they talk to about coming to join us?

They can come and see us
We can show them where things are
They can like use the phone
They can txt on the phone
They can ask a teacher
They can use the map in their car
They can talk to Sez cos she is the boss of the teachers and us.
