💛 Daffodil Day at Pioneer Kids! 💛
When: This Friday, 28th August
What to do: Dress your tamariki in yellow!
We are putting on our brightest yellow outfits to support cancer research. It is going to be a fun-filled day of play and learning! If you are able, a small coin donation to support the cause would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for helping us shine bright for a good cause! ✨

Pioneer Kids Community Excursion: Deep-Sea Discoveries!
This morning, our kaiako and tamariki stepped out into our local community to visit Thames Museum - Te Whare Taonga o te Kauaeranga! We went to check out the incredible ‘Colossal Squid - Ngū Tipua’ touring exhibition, and wow, our little explorers were absolutely captivated!We learned all about how this giant creature was captured by fishermen, and our tamariki were so focused, curious, and eager to absorb everything around them. Beyond the squid, we had a busy morning of hands-on learning: Marvelling at the massive wingspan of the Albatross. Learning about ocean math—comparing fish sizes and measuring legal limits for collecting shellfish. Testing out "old school" communication tools like Morse code and antique telephones and so much more the Museum has to offer.
We then wrapped up our adventure with some creative colouring in our very own special museum workbooks. We had so much fun exploring our local history and natural world that we nearly lost track of time! A massive thank you to the wonderful, kind museum ladies who took the time to show us around and make our visit so memorable.

🌈 There was plenty of experimenting happening outside today as our tamariki mixed colours, watched them change and eagerly discovered what they could create next. 🎨

There were guesses to make, ideas to test and lots of “look what happened!” moments along the way. Working alongside one another, our tamariki shared their thinking, tried things differently and followed their curiosity - turning a simple colour experiment into some pretty exciting learning. ⭐️

Last week our tamariki were busy bringing new life and colour into our gardens. 🌺🌼 But planting together gave us so much more than beautiful flowers.

As our tamariki dug into the whenua, planted each flower and gave them wai, they were building their own connection with Papatūānuku and te taiao. They worked alongside their friends, shared the mahi and took care with the new life they were placing into our garden, bringing whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga into something they could actually experience and be part of.

And the learning doesn’t finish once the planting is done. Our tamariki now have something living that they can return to, water, nurture and watch change over time. They’ll notice what happens after the rain, what grows with the warmth of the sun, the insects that visit and how our garden changes with the seasons.

Through these everyday experiences, our tamariki begin to understand the connections that exist throughout te taiao - and importantly, that they aren’t separate from Papatūānuku, but part of her.

By caring for our whenua together, our tamariki are growing their understanding of what it means to be kaitiaki of the place they belong. 💚

There’s nothing quite like warm kai on a chilly winter’s day! 🥪❄️ Last Friday, our tamariki enjoyed some yummy toasted sandwiches together - simple, warm and just what was needed on a cool, windy rā. 🤎

With the freedom to create and follow their own ideas, our tamariki have been busy exploring the marble run together.

Little fingers carefully gripped and placed each marble, followed by plenty of kōrero about where they might go, how fast they travelled and what happened when they changed the pathways. Through this they explored speed, gravity, cause and effect and spatial awareness, while strengthening fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Alongside the discovery came ako, manaakitanga and whanaungatanga - taking turns, sharing with their hoa, contributing whakaaro and learning with and from one another.

And plenty of proud little faces as they admired their mahi and shared their creations with the friends around them. 💛

Meet Leeanne 🌻

Leeanne is part of our Under 2’s team and brings such a warm, nurturing presence to the room. She has always had a passion for ECE and loves spending her days alongside our littlest tamariki - sharing plenty of cuddles and laughter, creating a safe and caring space, and of course having lots of fun along the way. 💛

Outside of the centre, Leeanne loves spending quality time with her son - playing, drawing, building, having conversations and enjoying those special moments together.

When she gets a little time to herself, you’ll often find her baking something delicious or curled up with a good book. 📖🧁

We love having Leeanne as part of our team and sharing in the learning, laughter and everyday moments with our tamariki.

🌋 Deep beneath Papatūānuku, Rūaumoko kicked and stirred. The whenua began to move, the maunga rumbled and before long… the puia erupted! 🌋💥

What started as a kōrero about Rūaumoko soon came alive in the sandpit - little hands building maunga, creating puia and imagining the movement happening beneath the whenua.

A hands-on way of bringing pūrākau to life, where our tamariki could explore, create and make their own connections to te taiao. 🌎
