On November 15, 1989 a time capsule was buried and dug up at the Te Kiri School 100 Year Centennial in 2000.

At the 100 year celebration another capsule was also buried.

This capsule is to be unearthed at 8.00pm on the night of this yearโ€™s celebrations (December 31, 2025), 25 years after being buried.

Another time capsule will be buried this year and contain items contributed by people within the district.

As part of the schoolโ€™s centennial celebrations 16 men from the district signed-up to grow beards from July 25, 1999, to the end of the Te Kiri School centennial weekend in March, 2000.

All were verified as clean shaven on July 25, after being inspected by ลŒpunakฤ“ barber Dave Shegedin.

All contestants had to sign a contract stating the rules of growth, with no under-hand treatment allowed.

We were never really sure who won, and what were the merits of their beard. Any body know?

Children from Te Kiri School follow the instructions of the school master (Mr Stan Danson) at Stratfordโ€™s Pioneer Village School in 2002. The whole school visited the village and got to experience what it was like in an old style classroom, minus corporal punishment, of course.
