Room 2: Reading & Learning Focus
Today, Room 2 focused on understanding an author's purpose while reading. Throughout the lesson, students engaged with a variety of texts to analyze why different pieces of writing are created.

To explore these concepts, we examined two very different types of literature:

Informational Texts: We read detailed stories about paleontologists, exploring how authors write to inform and educate readers about science, history, and real-world careers.

Persuasive & Descriptive Texts: We analyzed articles discussing where to find the best fish and chips, looking at how writers use language to persuade, entertain, and share local recommendations.

By comparing these distinct topics, students practiced identifying whether an author's main goal was to inform, persuade, or entertain (P.I.E.), deepening their overall reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

This week our juniors and seniors have started buddy reading for 10mins everyday after lunch. We are hearing great reading happening and some even better questions coming from both readers. We look forward to sharing more of our buddy reading with you over the coming weeks.This week, our juniors and seniors kicked off daily buddy reading for 10 minutes right after lunch. It has been fantastic to see them in action—not only are we hearing great reading, but both the older and younger students are asking thoughtful, engaging questions. It is a wonderful way to build reading confidence and foster connections across year levels. We look forward to sharing more updates and highlights with you over the coming weeks!
