For Augustine Kopa, studying our Certificate in Money Management was about creating a better future for her whānau.

The programme gave her the knowledge and confidence to make lasting changes. She became debt free, built an emergency fund and began setting her tamariki up for a strong financial future.

As a working mum, the flexibility of studying online made it possible for Augustine to achieve her financial goals while balancing other commitments.

Now, Augustine hopes to use what she has learnt to help others take control of their finances too.

When Melody Francis saw the positive impact learning te reo Māori had on her mum, she decided to join her on the journey.

Together, the mother and daughter have spent the last four years studying side by side, supporting one another through levels 1 to 4, and weaving the language into their everyday lives.

Their journey has strengthened their whānau connections, deepened their understanding of te ao Māori, and even opened new mahi opportunities for Melody.

Meet the facilitators for Wānanga iReo!

Genae Thompson (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is the Managing Director and Principal Consultant of Poutawa. She is an experienced te reo Māori educator, curriculum designer and cultural capability facilitator who has worked with adult professionals across education, health, government and community settings. As an adult second-language learner of te reo Māori herself, Genae understands the challenges, vulnerabilities and breakthroughs that shape the adult learning journey.

Tahau Thompson (Ngāti Hauā, Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāpuhi) is a Lead Consultant and senior facilitator with Poutawa. A native speaker of te reo Māori and a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo Māori, Tahau is an experienced tertiary lecturer, Kaiako, kapa haka practitioner and curriculum developer.

Katoa! Kua p**a ngā ihu!

At the end of the weekend just gone, the second cohort of Te Tohu Paerua o Te Reo Kairangi crossed the finish line. For 2 years they have poured their energy into this kaupapa, and have now reached this truly significant milestone. On behalf of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, we extend our warmest congratulations to each and every one of you. Every one of you! You did it!
