Brickworks School Holiday Workshops 🎭

In Week Two of the Spring school holidays, Brickworks Drama is back to run three days of fun, friendly drama workshops! Join us for a Mixed Media Adventure as we explore the ancient art of shadow puppetry, funny TV commercials, and colourful comics!

Our workshops for 6–15-year-olds (in age-appropriate groups), where students will gain confidence and develop their communication and teamwork skills, are guided by the experienced Brickworks Drama tutors. Every day finishes with a 3.00pm showcase by the kids for their friends and whānau! Single-day bookings are welcome, and make the most of our sibling discount!

When: Mon 5 Oct - Wed 7 Oct

Time: 9 am – 3.30 pm each day

Monday 5th Oct: Shadow Theatre (Storytelling)

When the lights go down, the stories come out! Today we explore the ancient art of Shadow Puppetry. Using light and silhouette, we'll craft puppets and learn to bring wonderful creatures and brave adventurers to life behind the screen creating a "Festival of Light" for our families.

Tuesday 6th Oct: The Living Comic Book (Physical Theatre)

ZONK! KAPOW! BOOM! Today our stage becomes a graphic novel. We’ll create freeze-frame moments that tell action- packed stories of superhero proportions! Thought bubbles, speech bubbles - no trouble! It’s a living comic book like you’ve never seen before.

Wednesday 7th Oct: Funny TV Commercials (Comedy)

Today we’re taking a trip back in time to look at the zany world of old television ads and create our own! We’ll learn to pitch our ideas (no matter how silly!) and create some catchy jingles. Maybe we can persuade you to buy some 1950s "Anti-Gravity Juice" or the 1960s "Robot Room Tidier”. We’ll solve problems you didn't know you had with products that are literally too good to be true!

A highlight this year - facilitating drama workshops for wonderful organisations like the Auckland Literacy Association, The Language Circle, and the Goethe-Institut New Zealand ✨️

In May, Lauren ran a German Theatre weekend for high school German learners from across Aotearoa. It was a weekend of making new friends, exploring cultural misunderstandings 😀, and performing on stage in German! ❤️

Yesterday, Lauren met students from all over Auckland at Ponsonby Intermediate for the Auckland Literacy Association event “Literacy Through the Arts”. 🎭📚

We exolored story telling and literacy through drama, dance and visual arts. It was impressive to see the other presenters in action - Sally Sutton, children's author from HiHa dance, Stu Duval author and illustrator, and Marcus Winter aka The Sandman! 📖

We plunged into the high-stakes world of the Latin American Telenovela at last Friday's holiday workshop ✨️ Inspired by Melissa McCarthy's brilliant Super Bowl commercial, we made some dramatic telenovela's of our own 💃🎬

We took a trip to Elizabethan England last Thursday for our "5-Minute Shakespeare" holiday workshop! It was a day of comedy and tragedy with the kids' awesome takes on the Bard's most famous plays 🎭

Today's Magic of Margaret Mahy workshop 🦁🦈🧙‍♀️🐊 Our Around the World with Theatre theme landed is in Aotearoa today! We took inspiration from the beloved books of Margaret Mahy and created our own plays full of magical characters 📚✨️

Just one tune from yesterday's beautiful medley with Stage Stars NZ - their Broadway & the Modern Musical singing workshop had the kids up singing, dancing, and acting out moments from eight musicals!! Thanks, Meghan and Cherie - the kids had a blast! 🎵💃
