Yesterday saw 8 fortunate Year 9 students (along with 8 year 8 students from Stanley Ave and their Princpal Mr Adams) accompany Mr Harray and myself (Mrs Hagan) to the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge.

Thanks to Mr Harray's connections, we were fortunate enough to trial the brand new Play Lab Sport Activation Centre before it is open to the general public next month.

The NZ Sports Hall of Fame is being moved from Dunedin to the Velodrome in Cambridge. The Play Lab is a way to draw people in and experience the heights of elite sport in New Zealand. And the Te Aroha youth were able to trial and feedback on the entire experience, making us extremely proud as always. There was great teamwork, healthy competition, many smiles and also a hotly contested battle of the Principals' grinding challenge.

An absolute cherry on top was watching the NZ woman's sprint team training for the World Champs in Hong Kong and China next month. The students were able to call down (and I mean way down, the gradient of that Velodrome is extreme) to Paris 2024 Olympic double gold medalist Ellesse Andrews, an epic moment indeed!

A truly magic day for all involved. 🤩🏅🚴‍♂️

🧡 REMINDER – ORANGE NON-UNIFORM DAY Friday, 25th September! 🧡

One last non-uniform day to finish off the term and get behind a great cause!

Friday 25 September – is our Shave for a Cure Orange Non-Uniform Day! 🧡

👕 Wear ORANGE

✂️ Shave for a Cure – Period 5

We’ll be coming together in Period 5 to support the brave students taking part in the shave and help raise funds for those living with blood cancer.

If we somehow hit $5,000… the eyebrows are going too! 😳

🧡 Shave for a Cure – Friday 25 September! 🧡

Te Aroha College is getting behind Shave for a Cure to help raise funds for Kiwis living with blood cancer!

On Friday 25 September, our brave students who have signed up will take part in the shave during Period 5, with the whole school coming together to support them. It will also be a Non-Uniform day, so wear ORANGE and bring a gold coin donation! 🧡✂️

But first - on Thursday 24 September, we’ll have a Trivia Station in the Quad. Come along, test your knowledge, and join in the lead-up to Friday’s big event!

And there’s a little extra motivation to get those donations rolling…

✂️ Raise $1,000 – Mr Daroux will shave off his mutton chops!
😳 Raise $5,000 – the eyebrows are going too!

Every donation, big or small, helps support the work of Blood Cancer New Zealand.

Today saw our third Year 9 rotation take part in our pie competition.
Very grateful to Joe from for his judging expertise and our other guest judges, Mr Harray, Mr O'Leary and Tainui form teacher Mr Darby.

This group embraced the challenge and the points were closer than ever before.

Natalie and Haleal's yummy chicken, bacon and musroom pie came in 3rd place. Then there was only 1 point separating first and second. Cooper, Joseph and Tyler made an amazing hamburger in a pie, complete with beef, cheese, tomato and pickle. Angus and Luke made a delicious slow cooked beef, onion, mushroom and cheese pie and took out top spot!

Look out for Angus and Luke's creation to hit the Backyard Eatery cabinets in the upcoming school holidays. 🥧 🤩 Well done 9 Tainui for your incredible effort.
