Kidiwise Preschool and Childcare

The winter has begun this week and our centre has had a multitude of stimulating and enriching experiences. Winter is vibrant at Kidiwise!

The final month of Autumn and all the beautiful coloured leaves have fallen but that's not the only wonderful thing that has happened this month. All of the rooms have been frolicking and engaged in all kinds of creative and interactive learning experiences.

Imagination and creativity form the ultimate playground for uninhibited innovation, fuelling exploration and curiosity.

Our Wise Owls room have created Ollie the Owl Scarecrow, made from repurposed materials found throughout Kidiwise. The owl holds special significance to our centre hence why it was an ideal animal to feature for the Scarecrow Competition at the Te Puna Harvest Market. Ollie won the the most sustainably made Scarecrow award, a great effort and success for our Wise Owls room. A big thanks to Oscar's family for helping with the transport and on the day, and to the Wise Owls tamariki and kaiako for developing such a fantastic work of art!

Already into Tuesday and here are a few snippets of what's been happening this week!

Explorers adventuring into the forest, Scientists testing potions, making eggstra time to give our hens a cuddle and last but not least, a visit to the Owls from a wonderful local librarian.

Today we had some very special visitors in the Owls room. Bridget and Roger from Birdlife Productions created a spectacular puppetry show with live music and story telling which took us on a magical journey and encouraging imagination. The morepork and other native birds displayed throughout the show resemble special significance throughout our centre within the rooms and surrounding environment. What a wonderful and wholesome start to the morning.

Happy 2 Year Work Anniversary, Michelle!

Today, we celebrate two wonderful years of having you as part of our Kidiwise whānau! From your time in both the Moreporks and Owls rooms, you have become such a much-loved Kaiako, and it’s no surprise the tamariki adore you so much they lovingly call you “-chell.”

Your dedication shines every day. You are always striving to do your very best, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. Your patience, warmth, and genuine aroha create a calm and nurturing space for all who are lucky enough to be around you.

One of your special gifts is the way you bring learning to life, whether it’s through your beautiful process baking experiences with the tamariki or the stunning play provocations you thoughtfully set up. The natural resources you gather and the environments you create enrich our centre in such meaningful and magical ways.

Michelle, thank you for everything you bring to Kidiwise: your creativity, your heart, your hard work, and the joy you share with our tamariki and team every day.

Local children’s book author Rachel Weston visited the Wise Owls. She read us some lovely pukapuka 📚 and watched the live bees in action in their hive! 🐝
