It is with great sadness I write of the passing of my longtime friend and colleague, New Zealander Bryan Dickeson, on 19 June.

Bryan’s loss will be keenly felt by UFO research in both New Zealand and Australia. He has been a staff member of UFOCUS NZ since 2007, in the roles of science advisor, historian and archivist.
Bryan has been a prolific contributor to UFO and Contact research, including public speaking, field work, interviews, articles, leadership, conference facilitator, and regression work with experiencers.
Bryan began his UFO research journey assisting his parents, Fred and Phyllis Dickeson, with their UFO group, and the publication of early NZ UFO magazines Satcu and Xenalog, between 1954 and 1982.

He soon became involved in field investigations and NZ conference speaking, particularly during the NZ Gisborne UFO flap of 1977-80, culminating in almost 50 years working in the subject.
Bryan had a BSC (Botany) and a BA (chemistry and English) from Canterbury University, Christchurch. As a young man he moved to Australia, where in 1991, he helped re-form UFO Research New South Wales in Sydney, and served as President of the group for many years. He is the co-author of The Gosford Files – UFOs over NSW Central Coast, with Moira McGhee.

Bryan had been involved with UFO abductee/experiencer investigations since the mid-1990s, and was trained in forensic hypnosis by a police psychologist of the NSW Police Force. Up until Bryan suffered a stroke several years ago, he developed a New Zealand UFO sighting database from his parents’ historic material, dating from 1869 to the 1980s

Bryan was known and loved for his old-world charm, courtesy, kindness, warmth and willingness to go the extra mile for a friend, colleague, or anyone seeking to understand the complex subject of UFO/contact research. He was highly intelligent, well-read, and a fountain of unusual facts!

I treasure memories of visiting Bryan and his partner Michael at their lovely cottage in the Blue Mountains of NSW whenever I was over in Sydney. When he and his partner owned a café in Katoomba, he would prepare special soups and treats for the mini bus full of weary conference committees and speakers from UFOR NSW, travelling up to see the famous Blue Mountains. A visit to see Bryan at the Parakeet Café was a must!

I have relived memories of times spent with Bryan over the last few days – drinking too much wine at a Sydney club, and virtually having to carry each other out – Bryan’s moon-boot and all. Talking UFO ‘shop’ around my dining room table, with more red wine. Roaring through Sydney at midnight with Bryan in his tiny car at break-neck speed (Bryan was NOT a good driver) on my first speaking tour to Australia – a Sydney-by-night extravaganza complete with a Sky tower meal and coffee at Bondi Beach.

How I will miss you, Bryan! You were one in a million my dear friend. I hope you now have answers to your many intelligent questions.

Very sad to report the passing of Dr. Bruce Maccabee, US physicist and photographic data analyst.
Bruce was generous with his time and expertise to many UFO researchers worldwide, including UFOCUS NZ here in New Zealand.
Bruce investigated and analysed the Kaikoura Lights footage of 1978/79,and his articles about this well-known NZ UFO event can be found on his website.
Bruce's expertise and personality will be missed in the UFO research field. A true veteran researcher and pioneer.
