Profile of a graduate published by
Prajakta Joshi is a Clinical Coder in our Clinical Coding team at Palmerston North Regional Hospital. Her role involves analysing medical records of our patients and translating them into alphanumeric codes as per Australian Coding Standards. This coded data is used for reimbursement, funding, resource allocation, research, and public health and quality improvement.
“I come from a medical background and have always been fascinated by the technological advancements in this field. This passion for contributing to the community drove me to learn coding, and I’m so happy my background comes in handy!”
Prajakta is a firm believer in enhancing her skills, which has enabled her to stay up to date. She completed her New Zealand Certificate in Medical Transcription and Editing from Sue’s Computer Training Company in 2020 and her Expedited Coder Course (ECC) from ACT Coding Ltd in 2023 before joining us in mid-2023.
“I believe that as a clinical coder, one should continuously update their skills. If you are a voracious reader and love reading, that helps a lot. Understanding medical terminologies, diseases, and treatment procedures is also very important.”
Prajakta has always been dedicated to supporting people in our community. This passion led her to be part of the COVID-19 Response team before joining us, and she received the ‘COVID-19 Response Recognition Award’ for her contribution to the health of New Zealanders.
Outside of work, Prajakta loves cooking and spending time with her loved ones. She is a member of the Global Parents Support group and loves volunteering with them for the betterment of the community. She also enjoys reading about Ayurveda and holds a degree (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery) in it.
Awesome mahi Prajakta – we’re happy to have you on the team! ❤
