Our tamariki are absolutely LOVING our new track! 🚲💨💗

It has already brought so much joy, movement, challenge and adventure to our outdoor space - and we have loved watching our tamariki make it their own.

A huge thank you again to our beautiful whānau for helping make this happen. We feel so lucky to have such a supportive community surrounding our preschool and our tamariki 💓

Safe to say… the new track is already a firm favourite! 🥰

What an incredible working bee we had this weekend 🩷 Our amazing parents pulled together their skills, time, and resources to help get our bike track sorted — and we are feeling so grateful.
Our preschoolers are going to be absolutely ecstatic racing around this beautiful new track. It’s going to bring so much joy, confidence, and adventure to their play.
A huge thank you to Bay Civil for supplying the gear and supporting this mahi. Your generosity helped make this special project happen.

💙💚 UP THE WAHS! 💚💙

Warriors fever has well and truly hit Omanu Preschool! 🏉🙌

With a big game coming up, we’ve been getting behind our mighty Warriors and showing our support the Omanu way - heading out into our local community for a game of footy… or, perhaps more accurately, a very enthusiastic attempt at one! 🤣🤣

There was plenty of running, passing, chasing, safe tackles, cheering and a few questionable interpretations of the rules - but most importantly, LOTS of fun! 🏉

We love opportunities like these to get beyond our preschool gates, connect with our wider community and enjoy moving our bodies together. Our tamariki were certainly full of team spirit today!

We’ll be cheering loud and proud this weekend…

🌿✨ Two Evenings of Magic With Kimberley Crisp ✨🌿

Over the past week, our teaching team and amazing dedicated kaiako from a few other centres in our wonderful ECE community as well as an intimate group of wonderful whānau were gifted deeply enriching evenings with the incredible Kimberley Crisp — a soul who speaks the language of nurtiring childhood with such clarity, gentleness, and truth.

Kimberley reminded us that emotional safety is the foundation of a child’s world, especially in a time where their “hood” — their environment, their influences, their sensory banquet — is constantly shifting, evolving and challenges their nervous systems.
And in that ever‑changing world, the anchors remain simple and timeless:

🌱 Nature
⏳ Time
🤝 Connection
And the rhythms in which they are anchored.

Through true, attuned heart held connection, children experience safety — even in a society buzzing with time restrictions, technology and noise. Kimberley helped us see again that imaginative play flourishes when children feel safe enough to tinker, explore, and follow their intrinsic biological urges to play. These urges are not optional; they are the blueprint of childhood.

We explored the powerful idea that children do not need adults to be their play partners. In fact, uninterrupted discovery is where their deepest learning lives. Boredom isn’t a problem — it’s a doorway to magic. It stretches imagination, invites creativity, and opens space for nature to do what it does best: nourish the soul.

And movement — OH, movement.
Children are biologically engineered to move. From the moment they are born, their development is shaped by how their bodies explore the world. Movement is not an add‑on; it is the curriculum.

Kimberley, thank you.
Thank you for filling our hearts, for cross‑pollinating wisdom with our parents, and for reminding us that the child — in their purest, most magical form, is always our compass. You hold a special place in our hearts and in the way we practise, always aligned with the core of the child.

🌿✨ A little spring refresh at Omanu Preschool… ✨🌿

With spring just around the corner, we decided it was time for a much-needed spring clean, refresh, and reimagining of our preschool environment - and we couldn’t be prouder of what we have created 💗

At the heart of every change were our tamariki.

Over recent months, our team has been doing some really meaningful reflecting through our Internal Evaluation - looking closely at who our tamariki are right now, what they are showing us they need, and how our environment can better support their wellbeing, play, relationships, and learning.

This has encouraged us to look beyond simply making a space beautiful, and instead think deeply about how it feels and functions for children.

We’ve opened up our room to allow natural light to flood through, created clearer and calmer spaces, made more intentional furniture choices, and thoughtfully cultivated resources that invite curiosity, creativity, movement, connection, and sustained play 🌿

We’ve also been paying much closer attention to the natural urges and ways our tamariki explore their world - creating spaces where they can build, transport, move, create, retreat, connect, and revisit their ideas again and again.

Our hope is that the environment feels calm without being restrictive, beautiful without being precious, and purposeful while still leaving plenty of room for the wonderfully unpredictable ideas of childhood ✨

And already… we are LOVING what we are seeing 💓

Watching our tamariki discover the spaces, transform them through their play, settle into cosy corners, collaborate with one another, and engage so deeply has reminded us exactly why this mahi matters.

We have also been completely overwhelmed by the beautiful feedback from our whānau as you’ve walked through the doors this week. Your words have filled our hearts and fuelled the passion and love we have for what we do here every day.

This isn’t the “finished product” either - our environment will continue to grow, shift, and evolve alongside our tamariki. Because just like our children, our spaces should never stand still 🌱

We are so incredibly proud of our little preschool home and even more excited to see what our tamariki do with it next 💗✨
