Elm Tree is a safe, well resourced, family focused Early Learning Centre in Tauranga’s C*D for children 3mths to 5 years

Elm Tree Early Learning Centre offers a safe, well resourced, family focused centre in the heart of Tauranga’s C*D. We are situated at 16 Mission Street, just along from the historic Elms Mission Station and Gardens. Our beautiful, purpose built building caters for a mixed age group of children from 3 months to five years. We are proud of the eco-practices within our Centre. We use solar power for heat & light, we recycle or re-use all packaging and paper, use child-safe cleaning products and compost food scraps for our worm farm. Our children learn how to care for our environment and take these good practices back to their homes and families. We strive to be the Bay’s education provider of choice by providing a stimulating learning environment, by respecting others & their beliefs and by embracing family & community.

Lovely team outing to Ōmokoroa with some of the team, we enjoyed a nice walk along the beach, picnic, playing at the playground, crab and starfish hunting, bit of outdoor badminton and had a lot of fun!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori week has been lots of fun so far! The tamariki have enjoyed singing, creating art, hearing and learning about our pūrākau, learning new kupu and waiata.

The theme for 2026 is Taone Reo Māori (Māori Language Towns/Cities), under the ongoing banner Ake, Ake, Ake – Mō Ake Tonu Te Reo Māori (A Forever Language – For the Sake of Te Reo Māori Forever). This year is all about encouraging everyone to get involved, no matter how big or small. Whether it is creating and practising your mihi, learning a new kupu, or incorporating te reo Māori into our daily routines, every little step helps keep the language alive.

This year’s focus celebrates the communities, towns and cities that bring te reo Māori to life and encourages us all to use te reo Māori in our everyday lives.

The tamariki have loved being involved in the different experiences, and it has been wonderful to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori together. Te reo Māori is something we incorporate into our daily curriculum, but it feels extra special to have a dedicated focus on it this week.

We had an amazing little adventure today to The Kereru Gardens in Oropi to select 6 trees for our garden. We were amazed at the variety of plants there! The tamariki each selected one tree and then we ate cookies made by one of their whānau 🥰 So thankful to be able to do these excursions and I can’t wait to go back again!

🎉 Happy Birthday to our wonderful manager, Nicola! 🎉

Today is Nicola’s birthday, and we just wanted to say how grateful we are for everything she does. She is not only an amazing manager, but also a caring teacher, a supportive friend, and a truly lovely person. We are so lucky to have her at Elm Tree.

She’s enjoying a well-deserved day off today, but if you get a chance, please send her a birthday message or wish her a Happy Birthday when you see her tomorrow.
