Making connections in learning helps children anchor new concepts, consolidate understanding, add on to prior knowledge and deepen comprehension.

This week in the Wee Sprouts we read the story “ Nanny Mihi and the Rainbow” and it has provided endless opportunities to read, write, create and discuss rainbows and colours. As part of te wiki o te reo Māori, we learned new kupu/ words and refreshed our colours.
We started the week writing information about rainbows, which extended into writing about the book.

We also managed to create a colourful dot rainbow to celebrate International Dot Day, a celebration of creativity inspired by Peter H. Reynolds book, The Dot.

We started today with rain and ended with sunshine, and I’m sure our rainbows helped to brighten the day.
