Tuesday 1 September, 5.30pm - come along!

Ka ora te Whenua, Ka ora te tangata.
When the land is well, we are well.

Join us as we celebrate the launch of the 2026 Revised Edition of Rongoā Māori: A Practical Guide to Traditional Māori Medicine by the respected Robert McGowan (Pā Ropata).

For over 50 years, Pā has been guided by the words of Whanganui rangatira Rangi Metekingi: "We don't own knowledge, we hold it, we share it, keep it safe, and most of all, ensure that it continues to live for those who follow us."

This revised edition is a reflection of that enduring wisdom—a taonga created to preserve and share the knowledge entrusted to Pā, ensuring it continues to inspire and guide future generations.

We hope you’ll join us for this special celebration of rongoā Māori, mātauranga Māori, and Pā Ropata's extraordinary legacy.

Rongoā Māori is an expression of a very different way of seeing the world. Te Āo Māori doesn’t see humans as masters of the universe entitled to whatever the planet is able to provide. Rather this worldview is based on a sense of belonging, of connection. For Māori, wellness depends not on how much they possess, but on the strength of the network of connections that gives them the sense of identity that is essential for their well-being.

That is very different to a world which is too often measured by the level of wealth one is able to accrue. The separation of Māori from their whenua did more than deprive them of economic opportunities; it separated them from the very source of who they were and where they belonged.
