There is so much more happening in play than meets the eye.
Every painting, conversation, experiment and imaginary adventure gives our tamariki opportunities to explore ideas, build confidence, develop friendships and make sense of their world.
At Bethlehem Community Preschool, play is learning. 💛

A little snapshot of our week so far ✨
From future dentists carefully brushing teeth, to hardworking builders on the construction site, budding accountants exploring numbers, and creative artists bringing their ideas to life—every day is filled with hands-on learning, imagination, and play.

Over the past few weeks, our tamariki have been caring for and observing our tadpoles as they slowly transformed into frogs. While nature had its own plans, we were left with one very special little survivor.

On Tuesday, we took a trip to Te Puna Quarry to release our tiny froggy friend into its new home. The children watched with excitement as it hopped and swam away into the pond, marking the end of one learning journey and the beginning of another.

Experiences like these help our tamariki build a love for nature, learn about life cycles, and understand the importance of caring for our environment. What a wonderful way to celebrate all the patience, curiosity, and care they’ve shown along the way. 💚🌿

Throwing it back to last week’s Matariki celebrations! ✨
We were lucky to celebrate Matariki in two special ways—sharing songs with the wonderful residents at Ocean Shores, and later enjoying a beautiful evening with our preschool whānau over homemade soup, buns, and a performance from our tamariki.

We are so incredibly proud of our tamariki for the confidence and enthusiasm they showed while sharing their waiata with both groups. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special time of reflection, connection, and togetherness. 💙

Today our tamariki became little scientists by creating their very own lemon volcanoes! 🌋

Using fresh lemons, baking soda and colourful food colouring, the children watched in amazement as a fizzy chemical reaction made their volcanoes bubble and foam.

Activities like these encourage curiosity, prediction, observation and problem-solving while making learning exciting and memorable. There were plenty of smiles, lots of “wows!” and a few colourful explosions too!
