🌙🎹 A little piano, a lot of magic…
Early one morning, we spotted an old piano sitting up the top of Humber Crescent. What happened next was a beautiful little community adventure — four determined kaiako, a lot of teamwork, plenty of heaving, huffing, puffing and wheeling, and the helping hands of kind-hearted community members passing by. Together, we somehow made our way down the footpath and into our learning environment. 💛
And what a gift it has become.
Our mokopuna have been captivated by this new addition — pressing keys, listening closely, experimenting with sounds, creating rhythms, taking turns, performing, tinkering and wondering “what happens if…?” 🎶
Music is so much more than making a sound. It invites children to explore pattern, rhythm, movement, language, emotion and connection. It gives them a way to express ideas that sometimes words cannot hold. As they experiment with the piano, they are building confidence, creativity, coordination and a sense of agency — discovering that their actions can create something beautiful.
There is something incredibly special about watching children learn through curiosity and play: a discarded old piano becomes an instrument, a provocation, a gathering place, a canvas for creativity and a doorway into endless possibilities.
This is the beauty of learning. ✨
Sometimes the most meaningful resources are not the shiny or new ones — they are the unexpected treasures that invite our mokopuna to wonder, explore, collaborate and create.
A big ngā mihi to our wonderful community for helping us bring this little piece of magic down the hill. 💕🎹🌿
