This weeks Friday FUNdamental is how I go about stuffing small pieces of amigurumi. I use a Polyfill, and the main thing is to work slowly, not rushing it, and don’t be afraid to start over if you don’t get the desired look the first time. Polyfill does relax over time so you do have to stuff firmly, using small amounts and building it up. Often I use the end of my hook to work the fill down into the piece until it is feeling very firm. I use a 3 mm hook with 8ply/DK yarn, knowing that this gives me a firm fabric that isn’t going to stretch apart and have the fill showing thru the stitches. 🙂

This week’s Friday FUNdamental is an introduction to mosaic crochet. I explain how I like to do my starting and ending stitches, how the DC stitches are formed, and a bit about envelope borders.
I work from the written patterns not the charts when I’m working in two colours. If I’m working with a third or more colours I’ll work from the charts.
In this video, for copyright reasons, I don’t show you the full pattern, or blanket. This is because this is an introduction only. I can cover reading the patterns or charts in another video if that is requested.
As with almost all crochet, there is more than one way to do mosaic crochet. I am showing you my preferred methods. I am not saying they are any better, or anymore correct than other ways, they are simply my preferred method of working. 😻

This weeks Friday FUNdamentals I will show you how I join two granny stitch squares using the join as you go method. This join matches the clusters and is a nice tidy way of joining, and feels like the project grows more quickly than completing all the blocks then joining. (There is however a place for that method also). Any questions please comment below.

This weeks Friday FUNdamentals is demonstrating a chainless foundation single crochet start to blankets. This is the way I start my mosaic crochet blankets, and whilst it may not be too much quicker than chaining and sc into back bumps, I like the rhythmical motion of doing this ‘cast on’. I don’t cut my yarn until I have completed the second row, (in the contrast colour) and I have double checked the counting. With chainless foundation you do not need to add a turning chain, so the number needed is the design number plus the border stitch at each end.

Today’s Friday FUNdamental is about how I sew in my ends on my blocks and blankets. They really do need to be secure and hidden well to get that polished look to your projects.
