Want to have the opportunity to call Chasing Memories yours without the price tag? All you have to do is head to the Tauranga Society of Artists Expo from the 16th to the 19th of April at Tauranga Boys and vote for your personal favourite. One lucky person gets to take her home! Easy or what?

With a few events coming up it’s another of those jobs that I sometimes wonder is it worth it? Especially with printing costs going through the roof like everything else at the moment. But I do like offering cards - for so many people it’s an affordable way to have a wee piece of my work and is often the first step towards saving up for an original. Hmmmm…
Buyers how do you feel? And other artists, do you offer cards? I’d love to hear people’s thoughts.

A recent Gold Award winner in Arts Shows Across Aotearoa, Shona’s work is gaining recognition nationwide, with exhibitions, gallery representation, and teaching opportunities continuing to grow.

Even though I managed to have my studio looking pretty good for last week’s Villa Studio relaunch, there were a lot of jobs that didn’t get done in time. After a few days off and admin requiring attention it’s be good to start ticking some jobs off. Paints rehung with these fab mini s hooks, picture shelves up, vision/swatch board up (yet to be filled) and I just love my LED UFO lights - each equivalent to 2-3 standard light bulbs in a cool daylight tone! If you are a fellow artist what are some of your favourite little things that make a big difference in your studio?

I have been dreadfully absent on my socials for a while now… but I’m not going to apologise 😆 because I’ve been delightfully present in the real world!
I have loads of catch up posts to do especially about my fabulous trip down South, but for now I need to let you know what is happening this weekend.
On Friday morning at 9.30 artists across Tauranga and the WBOP will be opening their doors and welcoming you in.
Running for 3 awesome, art filled days BOP Open Studios is such a great opportunity to meet the artists in your community (or alternatively it could be an excuse for a spontaneous long weekend in Tauranga). We have some incredible talent in the Bay, so grab your map, hit the website, check out the Starting Point gallery (it’s open all week) and choose your favourites.
I’m stop number 45 and in a perfect place if you are looking for lunch or a quick coffee. We have 3 eateries in the village now and the most devine sweet shop. On top of that there are 3 other fabulous art stops as well the Starting Point Gallery.
Hope to see you soon!

Artists Spotlight ✨

Shona Mackenzie is a mixed media artist working primarily with water-based paint, collage, ink, and drawing materials. Her expressive, intuitive semi abstract work explores her deep connection to the land, memory, home, and belonging.

Always working in series, she builds up and removes layers of paint, developing light texture and form. Each piece evolves through a quiet dialogue with the canvas. Having lived across New Zealand and Scotland, Shona is now a resident artist at The Incubator Creative Hub.

She creates both outside and in her cosy, material-filled studio at The Historic Village. Visitors will find finished works, sketchbooks, fine art prints, and cards, with new pieces often spilling out into the Villa hallway. The surrounding village is also home to boutique galleries, bush walks, and cafés, perfect for making a day of it.

🎨 BOP Open Studios is free for the public to attend, simply visit your favourite studios and enjoy meeting our incredible artists.

📍 Visit this studio during BOP Open Studios, happening November 21st–23rd.
