We have been loving these cold frosty mornings at Tawa this week. Filling up our loose parts with water in the afternoon then discovering the ice the next morning has been a big hit. A winter wonderland of play!

What a beautiful sunny afternoon for an adventure! Tawa ELC just enjoyed a walking excursion to the Crown Park pump track in Taupō to meet Cath from Kids Bike Taupō to learn about road rules, safe biking and extend our love of riding. Huge thanks to Cath for promoting this with our tamariki and whānau.

This morning we had an exciting outing to Mitre 10 Mega Taupō to purchase some new resources. We recently received some money from Kids Greening Taupo Take Action Fund, supporting us to get active in our natural environment so with that we purchased gardening spades, rakes, a new wheelbarrow, and plants for our garden. Our children loved seeing the huge array of tools for sale, and stopping for morning tea at the cafe!

Our tamariki at Tawa ELC have been loving getting out for regular hīkoi to our nearby gully. With the support of Rachel and Heidi from Kids Greening Taupō we have been investigating insects that live in the grass and native trees, learning about seeds that different plants produce, checking a rat trap, and even being poo detectives seeing what birds have been eating in the bush by investigating their droppings!

Welcome back to all our tamariki and their whānau. We are now open for 2026 and are excited to see you all soon. Today Cath from Kids Bike Taupō visited us for a bike riding session. What a great way to start the year!

Summer has arrived in Taupō! We have had a wonderful week enjoying the warm weather wearing our Tawa ELC pōtae (hats), which our tamariki choose their favourite colour for when they start with us. We topped off our day with yummy ice blocks under our tree thanks to one of our beloved friends who is moving away.
