The Big Music Day is nearly here! This fantastic annual event is on Thursday 24th Sept. If you have a child who is learning an instrument, then they might be interested in joining in for the day.

This is a school trip, and it doesn't matter where, or from whom, you learn your instrument. (Students do need to have been learning their instrument for around 3 years or more.) Please contact us through this page or by email if you would like further details.

If you have a child interested in learning music, please bring them along to the BMD concert from 4.30-5.30 at the Great Lake Centre (entry by koha).

The Taupo Youth Strings Orchestra took a day trip to Hamilton last Friday to perform at the annual Waikato/Bay of Plenty Band and Orchestra Festival, which involves schools and music groups from across the region. The orchestra performed extremely well and absolutely enjoyed their first time performing outside of Taupo!
They received a Bronze Award, along with an additional special prize for being the "Best Newcomer Group" of the day!
Thanks to the Orchestra director, Richard Paul, all the parents who helped to supervise and bring transport, and an extra thanks to Gary Collins for driving the Minibus!

Kia ora Janelle!

We're excited to introduce Janelle Walker, our Community Representative on the Taupō School of Music Board.

Music has always been a big part of Janelle's life, from singing and playing clarinet at school to now playing the bass guitar. She believes music teaches valuable life skills and is passionate about helping young people experience the same joy and confidence that music has brought to her own life.

We're grateful to have Janelle's enthusiasm and experience helping shape the future of Taupō School of Music. 💙🎶

These images show just a small snippet of the classes taking place each week.

We love being able to offer affordable tuition to these tamariki, and many others - its a core part of why we do what we do. BUT we couldn't do it without the generous donations from the community, volunteers, events and funding (where possible).

If you are able to make a donation, it would be gratefully received and put to very good use!

We are able to accept donations via our website at: https://www.tauposchoolofmusic.org.nz/donate

When you donate, you have the option of directing your donation to the area you prefer including our Big Music Day Event, Instrumental purchases/maintenance, our ensemble groups (Youth Wind Band, Keynotes Choir, Youth Orchestra) or General operational support.

Thanks so much!

A pair of glasses was found last week between Rooms 4 and 5. They haven’t been claimed by a Taupo primary student- did anyone’s child come home without their glasses?

Our fabulous principal, Jo Paull, has done us proud!! Have a listen as she’s interviewed by Radio NZ and shares who we are and why we do what we do. We’re so fortunate to have a principal with her incredible musical talent and heart. 🎶

Jo Paull talks about bringing music lessons to the children of the Taupō district.

Let's be honest...when most people hear the word "recorder", they probably think of a classroom full of enthusiastic children playing slightly different notes at the same time to create a delightful tune. 😅

But here's the thing - the recorder is actually one of the best instruments for learning music! It's the perfect introduction to reading music, rhythm, breath control, and developing the skills needed for other wind instruments.

At Taupō School of Music, our Recorder 1 class is a fun and supportive place for children aged 6+ to begin their musical journey, with our Recorder 2 class helping students build even stronger musical skills.
