There’s something special about winter sunshine. ☀️ Yesterday we enjoyed an intimate lunch outdoors, soaking up the warmth, sharing conversations, and embracing the fresh air together.

Our tamariki feel safe to mix things up from time to time with new routines like this one, due to the trust, familiarity, comfort, and connection they feel at Treehut. Sharing meals together outside provides opportunities to slow down, build relationships, and feel safe and secure within our environment.

It’s a lovely reminder that whether at Treehut or around the dinner table at home, the moments we pause, put distractions aside, and truly connect with one another are often the ones children remember most.

These everyday experiences support the aspirations of Te Whāriki, nurturing a strong sense of belonging, where children know they have a place, their wellbeing is valued, and they are surrounded by caring, responsive relationships.

Sometimes the simplest unplanned moments become the most meaningful. 💛

Our Treehut, Cubby whānau gathered together last night to celebrate Matariki — a time of connection, reflection, and looking forward to the year ahead.

We explored the ngahere at treehut with bug hunting adventures, discovering tiny creatures that thrive in the dark but also a big chunky possum chilling on our trees (maybe too big for our trap 🫣!!) Our fire pit kept everyone warm while kai was shared — hearty soup, a sizzling BBQ, and plenty of laughter.

A huge mihi to Heidi from Kids Greening Taupo for joining. We have a ruru in our trees and although it wasn’t around last night she bought one for us all to see, adding so much richness to our evening, connecting Papatūānuku to our Matariki celebration.

Nights like this remind us how special our Treehut community is — coming together, learning alongside one another, and creating memories that will carry us into the new year.

Ngā mihi nui to all our whānau who braved the cold and made this such a beautiful celebration. ✨

Mānawatia a Matariki - Happy Matariki.

Here is a some things we have been learning. Feel free to learn the waiata-song which the tamariki are learning. We have been talking about all the kaimoana, the manu-birds, the garden and sharing with one another.

We cannot wait to connect with our Treehut and Cubby whānau thursday 2nd July 2026.

What would your aspirations or goal be for Matariki?

And that’s a wrap!
This week we celebrated Kids Greening Taupo by championing the outdoors and getting out into the community all week!
Throughout the week we played out in the carpark, had a barbecue (in the rain 🤣), visited wharewaka + The Botanical gardens and of course attended THE most amazing planting day hosted by the Kids Greening Taupō team and their partners.
Thanks to our community we also have the privilege of donating $52 dollar to them!
So thank you to our community for their kind donations and of course our mates at Kids Greening Taupō. We look forward to the next big greening event.

Kia ora e te whānau!

Over the past few months, our team has been diving into research regarding the role of technology in our everyday lives. It’s sparked some beautiful kōrero among our kaiako about what truly matters in the spaces we share with our tamariki.

We are so excited to share our journey with you. Keep an eye out over the next wee while, as we begin to share the findings of our Internal Evaluation and the heart behind our mission: Building relationships with people, not technology.

The journey is just beginning, stay tuned!

Kia Ora Whānau,

As you may have seen or heard our beautiful Nova is needing our love, support and attention. She was born with a life long rare genetic skin condition called Ichthyosis. It affects 1 in 500,000 people and requires very expensive cream as well as ongoing specialist care at Starship Hospital.

As Grace talks about it in her interview with More FM, Nova receives treatment every 3 hours which is expensive. We are lucky to get to spend our days with Nova here at Treehut and would like to support her in any way possible.

On Saturday May 16th (this Saturday) MoreFM will be doing the 5 Hour Fundraiser at the Lake Taupo Hole in 1 Challenge between(7a - Midday). We would love to get as many people down to have a hit with proceeds going to Nova and her family⛳️🏌

If you have the means you can donate to her give a little page now😊👇

Keep an eye out for a fundraising Treehut is going to do to show our support.

Share the post whether you can make it or not because the more people talking about Ichthyosis the better ☺️
