Whether you have children or not, you were once a child. And your first teachers were your parents. And the truth is, they did the best they could with what they had to work with. Know what is also the truth? Their best wasn't enough.
And that's the part we don't like to talk about.
As women, we're taught to always make excuses for the people we love. We are taught to ignore how we feel because we don't want to hurt people's feelings by calling them out on how they make/made us feel. We were taught to suppress or avoid the very real feelings of anger, resentment, sadness and grief that live within us because of a lost childhood. A childhood where we were forced to grow up wayyyy faster than we wanted because nobody was living/speaking their truth.
Our parents, our first teachers, couldn't teach us about self love, honest and open communication, self-forgiveness, boundaries etc., because they weren't practicing them.
Whether you're a mother now or not yet, check yourself every moment of every day. Speak your truth which includes saying when you're pi**ed off. Pursue your soul's dreams. Forgive yourself. Love yourself all the time instead of only when times are tough/easy. Connect with the parts of you that you don't like. Say no when you want to say no. Have the uncomfortable conversations.
Do all of that OPENLY. Your children are learning from your ACTIONS, not your words. Your children need your truth more than they need your trying to keep the peace. Your children need you to own up to the inner work you're actively avoiding.
Living your truth every moment of every day is ALWAYS good enough. It's everything.
