• Realise their potential academically, creatively and in sport.

• Prepare for academic challenges that lie ahead so that they are properly equipped to excel in the next stage of their education and have started to become independent life long learners.

• Develop moral values, an awareness of what it means to be a good citizen and respect for others.

• Experience a balanced diversity of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities so that they can discover and develop their own interests and talents.

• Grow as individuals by developing self confidence, self reliance, an openness to new ideas and ability to take initiative.

• Enjoy being a member of a happy, functioning community and contributing to the life of the school.

What a beautiful day it was in Stratford yesterday for the grand final of the AgriKids competition. Three of the 21 teams from all over New Zealand that were competing were from CHB. The 'Sherwood Kids' - Casey, Evie, and Scarlett - did us proud! They competed with confidence, enthusiasm, and grit. They had to wipe the frost off the wooden pieces needed to assemble a planter box before they could start! It was a magic day, topped off when the girls were announced as winners of the module section, one of three sections they had to complete. We are not sure of their overall placing yet.
Congratulations girls, you are truly legends.

Room 1 students and teachers and 4 wonderful parents went to camp at Aramoana Beach in week 8 - just a week before the holidays started. We camped in a beautiful spot almost on the beach.
Students had four days that were packed full of enjoyable and challenging activities; exploring the rock platform at low tide, building sand structures to keep back the tide, snorkelling, learning about rips, swimming, spotlight, beach cricket …… the list goes on.
What incredibly lucky students.

I am very proud of these amazing Sherwood students who made it through to the National finals of the AgriKids competition in New Plymouth in July. Today Scarlett, Evie and Casey competed against 34 other primary school teams from the East Coast in the regional event. They made it through in the top 7 and then won the ‘Race Off’ which was the second round. Overall they came in in third place, what an achievement!!!
Their team work was exemplary, they were encouraging and positive throughout.
Congratulations girls.

Sherwood staff and students (in both classes) are loving the new front-of-class whiteboard/storage units and the new furniture - tables. The high tables have a whiteboard surface, this is a great assett for teaching.

Sherwood School has had a repaint over the holidays and is looking fantastic. A big shout out to Elmers painters. Larry has been very active in the grounds, they are looking great too.
I sent an email last week saying that we’re trialling an 8.45 start and hence a 2.45 finish and inviting you to call if this is likely to cause issues. Please do so, I’m in the office today.
We will start at 8.45 tomorrow and we’re looking forward to launching into another year.
