Conifer Grove Kindergarten

Conifer Grove Kindergarten At Conifer Grove Kindergarten we provide a high quality environment that reflects our local community

At Conifer Grove Kindergarten we invite you and your whānau (family) to experience an environment that welcomes individuality and promotes lifelong learning. It is a fun and educational place where children can meet and make friends while they explore and experience new and exciting challenges. A place in which parents and whānau are welcome to spend time with their children. We provide a quality

well-resourced kindergarten where all full time teaching staff are qualified, and environment where children have the opportunity to make their own choices, and are affirmed as capable and independent learners. We believe that through developing a close and respectful relationship with our families we are able to work together in developing aspirations for our children. By noticing, recognising, responding and documenting children’s strength and interests we are able to provide meaningful learning experiences. While in our care your child will:

* Be treated with dignity and respect
* Learn to develop positive relationships with children, adults and the environment.
* Have their cultural and spiritual beliefs respected and affirmed by all.
*Experiment with a range of equipment and resources.
*At Conifer Grove Kindergarten we use responsive planning to support and respond to children’s interest/needs, as this enables both the children and teachers to plan for their learning interests.
*We use both our indoor and outdoor environment to support the children to meet the challenges their interests may present to them along the way.

Our kindy was buzzing with excitement as we celebrated Matariki through meaningful learning experiences and time together with whānau. The children have enjoyed learning waiata, sharing our pepeha by introducing ourselves in te reo Māori, and exploring the Maramataka. We also learned about Tupuānuku, the Matariki star connected to food grown in the ground. This inspired us to plant our bean seedlings, sparking curiosity and wonderful discussions about growth and nature. A highlight was the engaging Matariki puppet show with Kathy from Animated Soundz, alongside lots of singing, dancing, and our much-loved Matariki Macarena waiata. Our celebrations culminated in a special Hākari, where children, whānau, and kaiako came together to share kai, music, and stories, while also welcoming our new kaiako, Jaspreet, and thanking kaiako Dian with a pounamu taonga. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make Matariki such a special and memorable celebration. We look forward to continuing this learning journey throughout our curriculum. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Rick Pickard from the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation for the fabulous sports equipment we received this week. The children have absolutely loved playing with the new resources, which have already brought so much enjoyment, movement, and excitement to our outdoor learning experiences. Thank you

Make sure you check out the Gallery's Te Aka Matua The Creative Learning Centre – a family friendly space with fun, hands-on activities that encourage tamariki and whānau to engage with art and develop their own creative voice.

Babies and toddlers can be bottle fed on seated areas in Te Ātea | North Atrium (next to Te Ata Matua | The Creative Learning Centre) or the main foyer. Please note that other food and drink is not permitted elsewhere in the Gallery, but can be enjoyed outdoors in the East Terrace, which is sheltered and has heating for rainy, cold days. You can store your food or drink in the Gallery’s cloakroom while visiting the Gallery’s exhibitions until you’re ready for a break. Refreshments are also available to purchase in the café.

Keep an eye out for this new pest, the yellow-legged hornets

Two yellow-legged hornets (Vespa velutina) have recently been sighted in the Auckland region.

This non-native pest hornet is not known to be present in New Zealand. Biosecurity New Zealand wants to hear from anyone who has seen this insect, to help us confirm there are no others in the area. At this time, there is no evidence of a wider population or nests.

The yellow-legged hornet (Figure 1) has not been detected in New Zealand before, although it is found widely across Southeast Asia and has been introduced to Europe and USA. This hornet feeds both on insects (including honeybees) as well as tree sap and fruit.
