A gentle reminder as we have a few illnesses making their way around at the moment. Please keep your tamaiti home if they are showing any signs or symptoms of being unwell.
We completely understand that tamariki can have the occasional sniffle, but when they are clearly unwell, they need time at home to rest, recover and get better. This also helps protect our other tamariki, whānau and kaiako from illness spreading through our kindergarten.

Kia ora whānau,

Due to the severe weather and safety concerns around travelling to and from kindy, We are closed today.
Local School buses are not running, and a number of other local kura have also made the decision to close.

The safety of our ākonga, whānau, and staff is our priority. Please stay warm, stay safe, and we’ll keep you updated with any further information.

Ngā mihi,

Turtle Time at Kindy! 🐢
"Drop, Cover, Hold!"
At Taihape Kindergarten, our Earthquake practices are a regular part of our programme. We complete earthquake drills every month so our tamariki become familiar with what to do if the ground begins to shake. The more we practise, the more confident and prepared they become.
As part of our learning, we've also been exploring Rūaumoko, the atua of earthquakes and volcanoes. Through pūrākau, kōrero, and our emergency drills, tamariki are learning that while earthquakes can be unexpected, there are simple ways we can all help keep ourselves safe.
We'd love your support at home too! Take a few minutes to chat with your tamariki about earthquakes and what your whānau plan is. What would you do if an earthquake happened at home?
Working together between kindy and home helps our tamariki feel confident, capable, and ready.
Keep calm, be a turtle, and remember... Drop, Cover, Hold! 🐢

Mōrena e te whānau
It’s that time of year again. We are a frozen winter wonderland. Please be particularly cautious entering the car park and walking into Kindy this morning as our parking area and the footpath are extra icy and hazardous.

✨ Matariki at Kindergarten ✨

Today marked the beginning of our Matariki celebrations at kindergarten.

Tamariki spent the morning helping to make a delicious pumpkin and vegetable soup before raising our Matariki flag. Afterwards, we shared a warm kai of soup and focaccia bread, celebrating the beginning of this special time of year together.

Throughout the day, tamariki explored a range of Matariki-inspired experiences. Little stars seemed to be popping up everywhere as children drew, built, and created throughout the kindergarten.

This is just the beginning, with many more Matariki experiences planned over the coming weeks, including our annual Matariki Breakfast. Keep an eye out for more information coming soon.

Our kindergarten kaiako recently created a large Tino Rangatiratanga mosaic with our kindy tamariki. As many whānau know, we strive to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in meaningful and authentic ways, and this project was a wonderful opportunity for tamariki to engage with and express these values through creative mahi.
Our tamariki played an important role in bringing the mosaic to life, contributing their time, effort, and creativity every step of the way. While there were challenges along the journey, their enthusiasm and persistence helped create something truly special.
We are incredibly proud of what our tamariki have achieved and invite you to check out the finished mosaic next time you're at kindy!
Toitū te Tiriti!

We love active play throughout our kindergarten playground, and parachute experiences are always a favourite! During these fun group activities, tamariki have been learning and practising movement directions such as left, right, forwards, backwards, up, down, shake, and stop. As their confidence grew, we added balls to the parachute, encouraging tamariki to work together as a team to problem-solve and discover ways to keep the balls moving across the parachute without them falling off.

Through our Engage practices, these experiences support both tinana (physical wellbeing) and hinengaro (thinking and learning). Tamariki are developing coordination, strength, listening skills, communication, and whanaungatanga as they learn alongside one another. The joy, teamwork, and excitement heard through the children's laughter created a beautiful winter afternoon.

Kia ora whānau,
A huge mihi and thank you to the two amazing wāhine toa who came along to support our kaiako with the hard mahi of digging, filling, carrying sleepers, planting, and helping bring our sandpit gardens to life. Your awhi, energy, and teamwork have been so appreciated.
We would also like to send a big thank you to the uncles from Kiwirail who came in and helped dig out the sand and dirt to get the project started. Your mahi made a huge difference.
A special thank you to Karl Garmansway for generously donating the sleepers for our garden project, and to Byfords for donating the top soil. Your kindness and contributions helped make this beautiful space possible.
The results are awesome, and our tamariki are already loving the new space. It has been great seeing our kindy community come together to create something so beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
Ngā mihi nui
