Yesterday was a truly special day as Te Huruhi School presented a beautiful, hand-woven tukutuku panel to Waiheke Primary School and vice versa at the Marae. This was sparked by a Waicol initiative envisioned by Nick Shaw and Stacey Hema, this gift symbolises the bond, mutual respect, and collaborative mahi shared between our two schools.

The panel features the Poutama pattern - a stepped design representing the pursuit of knowledge, the journey of learning, and a continuous climb toward excellence.

"In Māori weaving, individual strands of flax are fragile on their own. But when they are woven together into the Poutama, they become strong and unbreakable."

These stunning pieces will hang at Te Hurhi School and Waiheke Primary School as a daily reminder of our shared commitment to lifting up all the tamariki of our island. As the whakataukī reminds us: He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
