Kia ora Wonder Kids Stratford whanau! Transition to School Hikoi today and what a better way to start - is to have a picnic lunch at Prosperos before heading to Stratford Primary School. A visit to Room 14 and receiving such an awesome welcome! Room 14 were so friendly, especially Josh, Sage, Tupare and Laikin who tautoko our tamariki! We even got to visit the school library and the Hei Hei Hotel (chicken pen/hutch)!

Kia ora Wonder Kids Whanau!
Our tamariki went for an extra hikoi before our school walk to Stratford Primary today! We watched the trucks go past (got them to honk their horns) and viewed our Stratford landmark - the Glockenspiel! We had lunch with an extra treat of hot chips at Victoria Park before heading to Room 9 at Stratford Primary. What was exciting for us was seeing all our old friends - Morgan, Letila and Zoe! Thanks for having us Stratford Primary!

Last week we celebrated Diwali, the Celebration of Lights. The tamariki explored Diwali 🪔 through Indian inspired playdough, Mehndi colouring, music and dance.

A special butter chicken curry was made for lunch our tamariki were invited to help prepare some roti to go along side.

It was a week of celebration and fun.

On Monday, we had our first walk to the library for Term 4. The story was “Pea + Nut”, a story about being patient.

In the story, the two characters (a Panda and a flamingo) have a cake making competition. Where Nut rushes the baking, resulting in their cake collapsing and Pea taking his time, leaving him with a lovely chocolate cake.

The craft was a layered sponge cake made with sponges. All the tamariki had a grand time during our visit and even got a stamp from Kate for doing so well. Ka Rawe!

Reading “In the Beginning” by Peter Gossage for our roopu time, our tamariki were able to make connections to Mindful Movement for Mana and to their tinana (their body). Using the illustrations from our pukapuka, our tamariki role played being Tāne - pushing Ranginui into the sky! Flowing hands for Tangaroa, blowing big breaths out for Tāwhirimatea, strong muscles for Tūmatauenga and fists to the ground for Rūaumoko!

Our tamariki displayed such great mana in their body movements in connections with Ngā Atua!

Kia ora whanau! With Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori growing roots in our centre, we had the lovely opportunity to showcase to our tamariki, Mindful Movement for Mana! Learning about Nga Atua, engaging in body movements to embrace the meaning of each Nga Atua.

This also allowed us to engage in a game called Whano, building our upper body movements and matching our movements! Thank you to Katie Godinet and Anita Hill for sharing their kete with us!

We are celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori this week! This year marks the 50th anniversary of the event, celebrating the Māori Language Week, so we will be exploring waiata, pukupuku, raranga and experiences that embed the use ot Te Reo and Te Ao Maori.

The theme for the 2025 celebration is "Ake ake ake – A forever language".
