Little Poppy's Preschool

Little Poppy's Preschool We provide a nurturing environment where children develop a happy approach to living and learning.

Little Poppy's Preschool seeks to provide a warm and nurturing environment where all children develop a healthy, happy and secure approach to living and learning. Our goal is to give each child a warm environment to encourage the development of socialisation skills, independence and a positive self-image. Our experienced teaching staff embrace the view that each child is an unique person with an i

ndividual pattern and timing of social, physical and intellectual development. Teachers encourage children to think for themselves, make decisions and work towards their own solutions by expressing their own ideas and feelings.

This week our rooms were taken over by some very familiar faces, with tamariki and kaiako dressing up as their favourite book heroes!

There were princesses, superheroes, firefighters, storybook favourites and plenty of very proud little characters showing off their costumes.

We love any excuse to bring books to life!

And we have to say… everyone understood the assignment! 😂

As parents, when you start attending those introduction sessions before your child begins school, there’s naturally lots of focus on literacy, numeracy and getting used to the day to day rhythms of school.

But being ready for that learning starts long before they sit down with a pencil in their hand. You might be surprised by just how much something as simple as playing on the monkey bars can help build the foundations for learning in the classroom.

Monkey bars are brilliant for developing grip and hand strength, helping build the foundations for skills like holding and controlling a pencil, drawing, cutting with scissors and writing.

And it’s not just about those little hands. Climbing, hanging and swinging helps develop upper body and core strength, coordination, balance, spatial awareness, problem solving and confidence.

A whole lot of school readiness happening… they just think they’re monkeying around! 🐒

This week we had a little help from our tamariki in our Tui room (toddlers) helping us prepare for Kai during mat time! ‘Kai in the basket’ is one of our karakia’s we sing before we wash our hands. Kai Pai! ⭐️❤️
