Today kicked off with a first-light drop-off at Mt Torlesse for a full day of backcountry skiing, followed by an evening pick-up.

We’re lucky to have some incredible ski touring terrain right on our doorstep, and this is only the beginning of the season.

Our guests recently spotted deer roaming through the Torlesse Range, before flying down into the Waimakariri Gorge, where the blue waters wind through the mountains and the iconic Staircase Viaduct carries the Midland railway across the landscape.

The best part? It’s all right here on our doorstep.

We often get asked what a helicopter elopement actually looks like.

For A + P, it meant travelling from the UK to the Canterbury high country to get married alongside their two closest friends.

Their ceremony took place at Lovers Leap on Flockhill Station, followed by a relaxed afternoon celebrating together at the stunning Flockhill Lodge.

No strict timeline or rushing between venues. Just a day spent together in one of New Zealand’s most spectacular landscapes.

We’re just over a year into running Main Divide Helicopters, and we thought it’s about time we introduced the people behind all the helicopter content!

First up, owner and Ops Manager, Chris.

If you’ve flown with Chris before, you’ll know. He’s the kind of pilot who puts you at ease from the moment you step into the helicopter. Always calm, confident, and up for a laugh.

He’s known for his precision on the longline, lifting anything from spa pools to drills made of actual diamonds, while making it look easy! He’ll go the extra mile for his clients and his attention to detail (or OCD) is what keeps our standards high across everything we do. Our students respect Chris for his honesty and the real-world commercial experience he brings to his instructing.

With nearly a decade of flying experience, you’re in very capable hands.

Doors off earlier this week on a mission into the Craigieburn Forest Park.

Not too many perfect flat heli pads in this valley so we had to get creative and perch on a small ledge.

65 years farming in the area, celebrated with a trip to the summit of Mt Torlesse.

A beautiful morning flying Pete and his family up to the top, looking out over the Canterbury Plains and standing on the summit he farmed for nearly 30 years.

Happy 85th birthday, Pete.
