We had a wheel-y great time with the Selwyn Sports Trust iBike programme today.

iBike isn't just about riding, it’s a skills-based programme that uses fun games to teach our students essential bike safety and handling.

Looking for a couple of helpers this morning (Friday 20th) to get the Coast to Coast tent out to dry. Then a couple of people to pack up around 2:30ish THANKS :)

WE DID IT! (And we’re only slightly soggy)
A massive, THANK YOU to our incredible community! The Kathmandu Coast to Coast is officially in the books, and despite the clouds trying their best to dampen our spirits, Sheffield School showed up in force.

Here’s a quick recap:
The Great Trench of 2026: We started Friday morning by digging trenches just to keep the water away.

Fryer Power: We smashed through 200kgs of chips in record time. Pretty sure "Sheffield Chip Scent" is the new local fragrance at the Klondyke.

The Meatball Magic: The ANZCO meatballs were a hit. The dessert bowl became a lid to hide the main meal from the rain.

The 5:00 AM Club: A massive shout-out to the Saturday breakfast crew. The BBQ turned into a heater for competitors.

Good Vibes Only: Despite the rain, the atmosphere in both tents was electric. There were heaps of laughs and plenty of new friendships made over burger making.

Thank You!

For a school of our size, this is a monster of a fundraiser, and we couldn't do it without the legends who supplied food, donated their precious time, or offered up resources. You guys make the dream work.

Don't Miss Out Next Year!
If you missed the chaos and the glory this time around, consider this your formal invitation to join the fun. Block out your calendars for 2027: February 12th and 13th.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Mihi Whakatau (Welcome Ceremony): 2:15 pm. This is our formal way of welcoming new families and staff into our school community.

Community School Picnic: Starting at 5:00 pm. Bring a blanket, some dinner, and enjoy a relaxed evening catching up with other parents and teachers.

As many of you know, our students' safety is our top priority. With many of our children walking to school daily, the traffic speed through Sheffield and Waddington is a significant concern for us.

One of the biggest daily stresses for our staff is crossing the main road to reach the swimming pool. It currently requires a minimum of three staff members just to ensure the children can cross safely.

How You Can Help
We are encouraging all families to submit feedback regarding the proposal to lower the speed limit from 70km/h to 50km/h.

When writing your submission, we strongly recommend requesting that the Eastern 50km/h sign be moved another 100 metres toward Darfield. Currently, cars often don't begin to slow down until they are already coming around the bend by the Sheffield Pool. Extending this zone would ensure traffic has slowed to a safe speed well before they reach our crossing point.

Your voice makes a real difference in local safety decisions. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our tamariki safe.
