The Infinity Knot they tied together to always remind them of the promises they made.

"Tying the knot" is a saying that comes from the ancient Celtic tradition of Handfasting.
It signifies binding the couple together in the bonds of marriage.
In many times rings were only for the very rich, while love knows no such bounds.
The cords are not permanent but perishable. A reminder that all things material eventually return to Earth. Unlike the Bond and the connection between the couple, of love, which is eternal.
