For the past four weeks, Room 3 has been exploring New Zealand's unique native biomes. We began by comparing global deserts to our own Rangipo Desert, discovering that while NZ has no native scorpions, we could certainly craft our own!

Moving into native forests, we explored the meaning of conservation. Our passionate students have even begun designing small houses to help keep local wildlife safe around the school grounds.

A major highlight was hosting expert Taylor and his son, who brought in native geckos for us to hold. Room 3 and Room 1 did an amazing job staying calm, respectful, and quiet around these endemic treasures.

To wrap up our topic, we visited the Globe Theatre to watch Kopane School’s wonderful performance of David Hattenscarf. We loved the show, especially the penguin costumes, and took away great lessons on protecting our planet. We are incredibly proud of the curiosity and passion our students have shown!

❄️ Arctic Day in Room 3! ❄️

Today, Room 3 transformed into the Arctic! We had snow in the classroom, icicles hanging from the walls, a snow cave, and even an evergreen pine tree growing near the whiteboard! 🌲☃️

We started the day by designing our own husky puppies and learning how husky sleds are an important form of transport in the polar regions. We also experienced what life can be like during the Arctic winter by spending part of the morning in a dark classroom — just like above the Arctic Circle during the Winter Solstice, when the sun does not rise at all!

For reading, students took part in the Great Arctic Animal Challenge, where teams worked together to solve tricky clues and sort them into the correct Arctic animals. 🐺🐻‍❄️🦭

At one stage, I even became trapped inside an iceberg full of hidden clues… luckily, Room 3 rescued me very quickly! 🧊😂

To finish the day, students designed and created their own Arctic hot chocolates during our Hot Chocolate Challenge. After all… how else were we supposed to stay warm? ☕❄️

As always, Room 3 showed beautiful manners, fantastic teamwork, and such positive attitudes throughout the entire day. They truly deserved a fun day after all their hard work this term!

Have a wonderful long weekend everyone! 💙
